Having a billionaire backer has helped Oregon flip five-star cornerback Na'eem Offord from Ohio State. However, while he may be getting a possible shoe deal thanks to that billionaire backer, it may have backfired for him as fans often made him the target of their criticisms on social media. On Saturday, he posted an image from his final high school game on X, and as expected, fans slammed him.

Fans criticized his decision, especially as social media often portrays him as having been bribed by Nike co-founder and Oregon superfan Phil Knight for his flip. Others pointed out Ohio State's win over the Ducks in the New Year's Day Rose Bowl.

Meanwhile, some defended the Oregon signee and cheered Offord on.

"It’s disgusting what you’re having to put up with in the replies to your tweets. If anything I hope it reaffirms that Oregon is the right place for you. Godspeed, kid" one fan tweeted.
"As a Buckeye fan, it’s extremely sad to see this comment section. He’s a kid/young man who worked his tail off, and has every right to make the decision he feels is best for him and his family. Ignore the haters and go be great man! Good luck, unless you’re playing my Buckeyes," a fan tweeted.
"You should have stayed with the good guys!! Go be great my boy," another tweeted.

Offord has been pelted with all sorts of negative comments since his flip. Offord himself admitted the billionaire, whose net worth is $45 billion (per Forbes), played a big role in his decision to decommit from Ohio State and instead sign with Oregon. He had a verbal commitment to the Buckeyes, which made the flip possible, though he has now signed with the Ducks.

Na'eem Offord explains why he chose Oregon

Many have asked Na'eem Offord why he chose the Ducks instead of the Buckeyes. During a New Year's Eve press conference after the Under Armour All-America Game, he explained why.

“[At the end], they just recruited me the hardest. [Head coach Dan Lanning], he got a real good staff around him, a real good culture, a very good school, as you can see," he said. "Dan Lanning, he’s only been there for a couple of years. Like I told everybody, you can see a big impact. He coming in, he’s trying to make a huge impact. He’s trying to win him a national championship."

Offord had been verbally committed to Ohio State since February, though Oregon and Auburn had not given up on recruiting the cornerback. Reports suggest Nike co-founder Phil Knight had always wanted Oregon to win the national championship, and Offord is a part of achieving that goal.
