Sometimes, acting nonchalantly can get an opponent's guard down, and this worked for Texas high school hooper Aniah Holmes. Holmes' very nonchalant way of bringing the ball down the court after an inbound pass got her opponents forgetting to actually guard her.
This made them pay as she sank a three immediately, but not before casually walking off after her shot during last Friday's game against Dekaney.
Aniah Holmes plays for the Nimitz Lady Cougars, and she is one of the best players on the team despite not being ranked or starred by the big-ranking websites. However, with that nonchalant shot, she made a name for herself on the internet, with the crowd going wild inside that high school gym after she sank the shot. A lot of people also reacted to the video, which was posted on Instagram:
"Walking the dog is crazy yk wat crazy if you don’t know that name," said one commenter.
"They let her do a full court size up," another commenter added.
"She’s gonna look an be even better if she puts on the Garnet an Black in South Carolina." one person noted.
While some were unimpressed, others were raining praise on Aniah Holmes.
"All you gotta do is dribble up the court and hit an uncontested 3 to get on sportscenter now? Damn the world really is changing huh…," said one commenter.
"Size up down da court like dat she got skills nd a 3," another person commented.
"She got range she’s a bucket for sure 🔥," another commenter added.
She scored 28 points during that game against Dekaney High School in Texas, which Nimitz won in dominating fashion, 68-18. Holmes and the Nimitz Cougars will gace the MacArthur Generals next, and that game is scheduled on Jan. 14.
Aniah Holmes named the Houston Chronicle's Player of the Week
Despite being unstarred and unranked, Aniah Holmes has been making a name for herself in Texas, as she was named the Houston Chronicle's Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 13, 2025.
Voters chose her after dropping 24 points, six assists, three rebounds, and five steals during Nimitz High School's 71-10 win against Aldine last Dec. 13. Nimitz is scheduled to face that same team on Jan. 17, after their game against MacArthur.
Hilmes reached the 1,000-point threshold last November and will be one to watch out for in years to come.
