Five-star Arkansas signee Darius Acuff scored 32 points as the difference maker in IMG Academy's victory over St. Mary's Prep on Thursday.
A Ballislife Instagram post on Friday featured Acuff in action as the point guard dribbled through defenders, made baskets, combined well with teammates and sank 3-pointers.
Despite falling behind by eight points in the first half, the Acuff-led Ascenders (Bradenton, Fla.) rallied in the second half to clinch the victory.
Much of IMG Academy's comeback effort can be credited to Acuff, who scored 13 of his 32 points in the fourth quarter, including a clutch go-ahead 3-pointer with just 1:30 left on the clock.
Trey McKenny led St. Mary's Prep (Orchard Lake, Mich.) with 37 points, scoring 26 in the first half.
Darius Acuff reflects on homecoming showdown against childhood friend Trey McKenney
After the game, Darius Acuff shared how much he had been looking forward and that it felt like home playing in Michigan for the first time in two years.
"I've been waiting on this moment forever," Acuff said. "Just felt good to play in the city for the first time in two years. It felt like home for sure."
Acuff grew up in Detroit, where he began his high school basketball career at Cass Technical High School. He and fellow player Trey McKenney were childhood friends, often playing together on public courts in Detroit.
The two remained close, teaming up on the NIKE EYBL squad and the U.S. under-18 team. Acuff, a consensus five-star recruit, later transferred to IMG Academy.
When asked about McKenney's performance, Acuff said:
"He was frying, honestly. He's my boy. He's a pro."
Acuff made the transition to IMG Academy after his sophomore year at Cass. He will play college basketball at Arkansas next season.
