Five-star Arkansas signee Meleek Thomas has named himself the MVP of the entire Overtime Elite League. In an Instagram post shared on Friday via the league's official IG page @ote, the City Reapers star was seen playing a word association game with popular social media content creator Sniper Jones.
In the video, the five-star prospect didn't hesitate when Sniper threw out the word "OTE MVP," confidently responding with his own name. He also described fellow OTE player Eli Ellis as a "good basketball player," his team, the City Reapers, as "The Unit" and head coach Doug Martin as a "good coach."
With Meleek Thomas' stellar performance in the Overtime Elite League this season, it's fair to say that labeling himself as the overall MVP may be true. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard has been on top of his game, averaging 29.1 points, 4.5 assists and 8.6 rebounds per game. His impressive performances have been crucial to the City Reapers' success so far this season.
At the halfway mark of the Overtime Elite League season, Meleek currently ranks second on the league's points leaderboard and fourth in rebounds. If he continues at this level and elevates his game a bit more, he may be on course to win the OTE MVP award by the season's end.
"I Felt at Home": Meleek Thomas Opens Up About Choosing Arkansas
Meleek Thomas made his college commitment to coach John Calipari's Arkansas Razorbacks in November, choosing them over other top programs like Kansas, Pittsburgh, and Connecticut. Speaking to ON3 about his decision, the 18-year-old prospect mentioned that he really felt at home with the Razorbacks, which was a significant influencing factor in his choice.
"When I was making my college decision, I wanted to make sure that everything was a fit from play style and how they will use me on the team but also that it felt like home to me and my family. With Coach Cal and the team at Arkansas, I felt at home."
For now, Meleek will continue with the City Reapers as he prepares for college basketball next season. He'll be joining the Razorbacks alongside fellow Class of 2025 recruits: five-star point guard Darius Acuff and 6-foot-6 Isaiah Sealy.
