Ohio State point guard commit Marcus Johnson put in a 25-point performance to start the year as the Garfield Heights Bulldogs continue their undefeated run. Johnson led the Bulldogs as they defeated the Warrensville Heights Tigers 59-45 on Thursday. The game made it seven wins in as many games for the Bulldogs, who are maintaining their impressive run.

The team extended its undefeated run to eight games on Sunday when it snatched a narrow 59-57 victory over the Lutheran East Falcons. Marcus Johnson and his teammates will seek to continue their undefeated streak on Tuesday as they prepare to face the Westerville North Warriors.
Who is Marcus Johnson?
Marcus Johnson is a five-star point guard prospect from the 2026 class. With a 6-foot-1 height and 165-pound weight, he is one of the best-rated prospects in the class. He is the No. 5 point guard nationally, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, and the No. 2 prospect in the state of Ohio.
Johnson has caught the attention of some of the top basketball programs in the country, resulting in 14 scholarship offers, according to 247Sports. He has received offers from Alabama, Cincinnati, Illinois, LSU, Oklahoma, Seton Hall, Villanova and West Virginia, among others.
However, he announced his commitment to his home state school, Ohio State, in April. Despite competition from other top programs, the Buckeyes had the advantage of their proximity to Johnson’s hometown.
Beyond his performance for his varsity team, Johnson has equally impressed on national stages. He played in the Midwest Live event last summer after dropping headline performances at the Nike Elite 100 underclassman camp in St. Louis.
He also played with the Indy Heat travel team on the Nike EYBL 16-U circuit, leading it to a 6-4 record. He led the 16-U scoring with a 24.1 average while also recording 5.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists.
The standout point guard averaged 23.1 points in his sophomore season, helping his team finish with an impressive 25-2 record. In his first two high school seasons, Johnson has already surpassed the 1000-point milestone, an outstanding feat. He was a MaxPreps second-team Freshman All-American selection in 2023.
He was a finalist for the Ohio Mr. Basketball Award in 2024, losing to Ohio State forward Colin White. However, he was awarded the Ohio Gatorade State Player of the Year Award, and he also won the MaxPreps State Player of the Year Award.
