Auburn signee Deuce Knight, a five-star quarterback from George County High School, delivered a stellar performance in the 38th Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Classic, even with his team losing 35-29 on Saturday. Held at Mobile’s Hancock-Whitney Stadium, the game marked Alabama’s fourth consecutive win in the series, which dates back to 1988 and now stands at 27-11 in Alabama’s favor.
KJ Lacey earned Alabama MVP, while Deuce Knight claimed Mississippi MVP.
After the game, Knight took time to connect with his fans, a moment captured by Matt DeGregorio on X (formerly Twitter). The video showed Knight as the last player to leave the field, signing autographs for young Auburn supporters.
Knight played a pivotal role in the back-and-forth contest, which included eight lead changes. The two teams recorded 711 combined yards, making it the second-most productive matchup in the game’s history.
On a defining course, Deuce Knight confirmed his offensive potential as he did a 24-yard dive to grab a first down and then made a 33-yard towering throw to Maddox Lynch, reducing Alabama’s lead to 7-6 by the end of the first quarter.
Alabama quarterback K.J. Lacey was equally good, completing 21 out of 36 passes for 327 yards and four touchdowns.
Deuce Knight stays with Auburn citing strong bonds
Deuce Knight, signed with Auburn on Dec. 4. The 6-foot-4, 206-pound lefty is ranked as the No. 6 quarterback and No. 52 player in the 2025 recruiting class, according to 247Sports.
Knight, who was committed to Notre Dame earlier in the year, flipped his pledge to Auburn in October. During the 2024 season, he frequently attended Auburn home games and was also seen visiting Ole Miss.
“It was tough,” Knight shared with Al.com. “I didn’t finally make a decision until last night. I talked with my family, and I just felt most comfortable at Auburn. The relationships I built with that staff, it just ultimately led me to decide to go to Auburn.”
Deuce Knight highlighted Auburn coach Hugh Freeze’s offensive system as a major factor:
“Coach Freeze, he’s known for the RPO (run-pass option). I feel like I do both of those things very well. So he’s going to put me in position to succeed. And we’ve got playmakers, Cam Coleman, Perry Thompson, guys who are going to come in through the portal. And I believe we can do it big.”
In 2024, despite missing four games due to a hamstring injury, Knight threw for 2,082 yards, 24 touchdowns and five interceptions, while rushing for 450 yards and nine scores. His efforts helped lead George County to the second round of the Class 6A playoffs.
