Dakorien Moore, the nation’s top-ranked wide receiver for the 2025 class, announced his commitment to the Oregon Ducks last week. The five-star recruit from Duncanville, Texas, revealed his decision on July 4, with a video showing him lighting up a green smoke bomb.
On Friday, Moore posted some snippets from the announcement on his X account, writing:
"Mama said “think BIG” I’m thinking 🤔 💭 GLOBAL … #DOAF #ScoDucks."
Oregon coach Dan Lanning and his team achieved a historic milestone by securing the program’s highest-rated recruit ever. Moore, hailing from Duncanville High School in Texas, was heavily favored to join the Texas Longhorns, with an 89.4% confidence score according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.
Despite this, he chose Oregon. Originally planning to announce his commitment in late July or early August, Moore moved the date to Independence Day, adding to the unfolding drama.
In the previous season, Moore recorded impressive stats with 65 receptions, 1,303 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns, contributing to Duncanville’s 14-1 record and a sixth-place finish in the USA Today High School Sports Super 25 rankings.
During his announcement on his fourth Instagram live in July, Moore said:
“After today, I am done with my recruitment. I am shutting everything down. I am locked in on the school that I pick.”
Dakorien Moore's decision marks a significant blow to Texas, which has recently seen another top in-state five-star prospect, cornerback Dorian Brew from Conroe, commit to Oregon as well.
Dakorien Moore’s commitment to Oregon secures historic recruiting win
Dakorien Moore's commitment marked a significant recruiting triumph for coach Dan Lanning. The five-star talent from Duncanville High School in Texas, where his head coach is the father of Oregon running backs coach Ra'Shaad Samples, made trust in the coaching staff a key factor in his decision.
Since joining Duncanville’s varsity team as a freshman in 2021, Moore has amassed 130 catches for 2,653 yards and 29 touchdowns. His junior year alone saw him achieve 71 catches for 1,523 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Moore cited the unique atmosphere and the genuine relationships fostered by the Oregon staff, especially highlighting receivers coach Junior Adams and coach Dan Lanning.
“Coach Lanning is a good judge of character and builds relationships that attract great players,” Moore said at the On3 Elite Series in May.
Standing 5-foot-11 and weighing 186 pounds, Dakorien Moore is ranked as the No. 3 player nationally, the No. 1 wide receiver and the top player in Texas. His commitment has boosted Oregon's 2025 recruiting class to No. 3 in the On3 national rankings, just behind Ohio State and Alabama.
Oregon’s impressive recruiting streak includes five-star talents like Jordon Davison and Dorian Brew and four-star prospects Josiah Sharma and Dashaan Brame. Dakorien Moore will join an already strong receiving corps featuring five-star Dallas Wilson and four-star Isaiah Mozee.
