Alijah Arenas was fully in his element as Chatsworth Chancellors took on Etiwanda in their high school basketball clash on Dec 30, 2024. Although the Chancellors fell to a 57-61 defeat, the No.15 overall prospect in ESPN’s ranking put on a show in front of his dad Gilbert Arenas and his dad’s girlfriend Melli Monaco, putting up a monster 43 points in the win. The highlight reel of his performance was posted on Qwk11hoops' Instagram account.
It was Arenas' 48th straight game in which he dropped at least 15 points - a run which started last season. Arenas’ 43-point performance against Etiwanda came after he dropped 56 points in seven rebounds and five assists against the Prescot Badgers on Dec 27, 2024.
However, it was also not enough to give Chatsworth the win as they lost by six points despite scoring a season-high 87 points.
Chatsworth is 10-4 this season, thanks to Arenas’ consistent performances every day. The 6-foot-5 is averaging 31.3 points per game, shooting 57% from the while averaging 5.0 assists per game.
The 17-year-old has been consistent in his high school career, averaging 31.7 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. Next up for Chatsworth and Arenas is a clash against Long Beach Poly for a non-league match on Saturday, Jan 4, 2025.
Alijah Arenas is yet to commit after reclassification
Arenas has little time left in high school, though, after reclassifying from the class of 2026 to the class of 2025. However, since his reclassification, the son of Gilbert Arenas has yet to commit to any school for college basketball.
The Chatsworth shooting guard is reportedly a target for Fresno State, Washington State, UTEP, Arizona and UCLA, given a 34.4% chance of signing him as per on3.
However, Arizona is reportedly a likely option as Arenas could follow in the footsteps of his father, who played for the Wildcats between 1999-2001 before moving to the NBA.
Arenas, along with Koa Peat and Brayden Burries, is one of the three top-15 prospects in the class of 2025 that Arizona is hoping to sign, having already signed four-star recruit Dwayne Aristode.
