Kiyan Anthony, son of NBA legend Carmelo Anthony, was in Japan over the summer for some shopping and relaxation after a hectic summer, which included the FIBA U17 World Cup and the Nike EYBL Peach Jam. In the second part of his Japan vlog, Kiyan explored the more traditional side of the Land of the Rising Sun.
After taking a bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto, Kiyan, along with his mom La La and other family members, visited the Fushimi Inari, located in Japan's former capital and wished for three things. The shrine, famous for its over one thousand torii gates, is dedicated to Inari, a fox deity.
Visitors to the shrine usually pray for their wishes and lift a rock. The ease with which one lifts the rock is believed to reflect how easily one can achieve their wishes. Kiyan lifted the rock with ease, and when asked what he wished for, he said:
"I wish for a good basketball career. I wish I have a lot of money and I wish for my family to stay safe and secure." (2:11-2:23)
He then noted that he enjoyed his visit to a Shinto shrine, calling the experience "definitely fire." He and his family then continued their visit around Kyoto, one of Japan's most ancient cities.
Kiyan Anthony had trouble finding his shoe size in Tokyo
Before going to Kyoto though, Kiyan Anthony and his mom, La La, an actress and host who is known for her fashion sense, continued their shopping spree around Tokyo, visiting Shibuya, a known trendy spot in the city.
He went shopping for shoes and clothes and found one shoe he liked. However, he soon realized that people are a lot smaller in Japan than in the US, and this translated into shoe sizes, with him being told that they did not have his size on the pair of shoes that he wanted.
"Damn bro, I told you everybody is mad little bro, like nobody wears 12," he complained(1:43-1:53)
Kiyan Anthony, now playing for Long Island Lutheran in New York, is ranked No. 32 nationally for the class of 2025 by 247Sports Composite, which also ranks him as the No. 6 shooting guard and the No. 1 player in New York for his class.
His father, NBA legend Carmelo Anthony, revealed on Friday that he is now down to only two choices for college: Syracuse and USC.
