Kiyan Anthony, a 4-star recruit from the class of 2025, recently shined during the USA Basketball junior minicamp at Colorado Springs, impressing several basketball insiders and scouts. He recently sat down with Yahoo! Sports for an interview and talked about getting "stronger."
The No. 34 ranked player from the class of 2025 and son of NBA legend Carmelo Anthony stated that during the camp, he was trying to separate himself from the others and trying to improve as he entered his senior year of high school.
He told host Krysten Peak that he is trying to get stronger physically and hitting the weight room to go to the next level and ahead of everybody else in his class.
"I'm trying to get stronger," he said." Still getting taller so I feel like me being in the weight room is really just going to impact my game even more and then take me to the next level going into college." (0:44-0:51)
The 6-foot-5 Long Island Lutheran High School star was also asked about his whirlwind of a summer, which not only included a trip to Paris to watch the Olympics with his father, but also participating in youth basketball leagues, including Peach Jam, and many other events.
He particularly talked about Steph Curry's crazy 3-point shot over two defenders during the final where Team USA defeated host nation France, 98-87.
"Oh, that was crazy. I can't even explain it. Like, I took a video on my phone and I had everybody text me like asking for right to the video and stuff like that so it was just crazy to see," he explained. (1:04-1:12)
Kiyan Anthony also noted that Carmelo would talk to him during the game, breaking down what happened. The elder Anthony has been mentoring his son throughout his life, especially in the game of basketball.
Kiyan Anthony yet to make a college decision
For now, the 4-star guard is still getting ready for the upcoming high school basketball season. With that comes the anticipation of which school he will choose after he graduates next year.
According to On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine, Syracuse, his father's alma mater, has the highest chance of getting Anthony's commitment (84.2%).
However, Kiyan Anthony has noted that Carmelo has not been pushing for Syracuse. Should he choose not to go to his father's school though, the other two choices in his top 3 are Auburn and USC.
