Derrick Rose is a Chicago basketball legend, not just because of his time with the Chicago Bulls, but also as a homegrown talent, as he played for Simeon Career Academy in high school. He returned to his alma mater on Friday for a special event, suiting up for the same team as his son, PJ Rose.

PJ showed that he has his dad's moves in the highlight video. The game featured a mix of kids and adults on both teams, with the father and son duo cheered on as they entered and gymnasium. The former NBA MVP also gave a speech and thanked the crowd after the game.

PJ made waves as he was accepted into the AAU program Twelve Time — Ja Morant's team. Morant played with his father for the Memphis Grizzlies, with Rose acting as the mentor for the rising superstar, who used to get into trouble, from his gun controversies to his injury problems.

Derrick has been busy giving back to the community after announcing his retirement in September. He spent four years at Simeon Career Academy and played for its varsity team from his sophomore year to his senior year.

Derrick helped the Wolverines win back-to-back Class AA state championships, the first Chicago public school to do so. He was then scouted by colleges all over the country.

During his senior season, he received several accolades, including being named a McDonald's All-American and two All-State nods. Derrick played for Memphis in college under current Arkansas coach John Calipari and had his jersey retired by his high school.

Derrick Rose gave back to Simeon Career Academy with the help of Adidas

Derrick Rose partnered with Adidas to set up "Rose Schools" to reach out to communities in need, and the first school he chose was his alma mater, Simeon Career Academy.

The outreach will help provide the school with uniforms that feature Rose's signature logo. It will also provide opportunities for players to grow on and off the court.
