Sometimes, trash-talking can be shut down, and high school basketball star Kaleena Smith showed how it is done. Last weekend, at a Border League game against Valley Prep in Las Vegas, Nevada, numerous audience members were trash talking to her. She responded by posting a monster game, and her trash talkers getting tongue-tied were all caught on video and posted by Courtside Flims.
The trash talkers were awe-struck by her performance, and one of them can be seen shaking his head. Kaleena Smith let her game do the talking and finished the game with a double-double, 20 points and 10 assists. Her team, 7 Days Knight, won that game 86-73.
Smith, who is considered the No. 1 prospect from the Class of 2027, made her Border League debut last weekend, with 7 Days Knight finishing the Las Vegas leg of the preseason tournament with a 4-0 record.
On day one, October 18, her team defeated the CTA National Team 94-22 in one of the tournament's most lopsided games. On day two, 7 Days Knight played two games, the first of which was a landslide victory against the Vegas Bulldogs 71-48 and the second against AZ Compass 83-34. Their third game on day three, against Valley Prep, was much closer, but they prevailed 86-73.
What scouts are saying about sophomore star Kaleena Smith
Kaleena Smith, nicknamed "Special K," is a 5-6 point guard from Ontario Christian High School.
The sophomore star first impressed many when she attended the 2024 USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team minicamp in Portland, Oregon, last March before being named a member of the 2024 USA Women’s U17 National Team in May after participating in the trials in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Brandon Clay, 247Sports' director of scouting for women's basketball, noted her ability to score and having court vision was key to her impressive performance during the USA Basketball 17-and-Under Trials. He also praised her passing ability, as she was able to pass balls through tight windows and was able to hit teammates in stride for layups.
Clay also described her as "arguably the nation's premier player in the rising sophomore class" and added that she felt like "a player who could make this roster as a true lead guard."
