A.J. Dybantsa, the top-ranked recruit in the Class of 2025, had a taste of the electric college football atmosphere when he attended the Alabama vs. Georgia game on Saturday. Alabama hosted Dybantsa and joined fellow elite prospects Meleek Thomas (ranked No. 9) and Darius Adams (No. 17) as Crimson Tide basketball coach Nate Oats worked to attract top-tier talent to his program.
Dybantsa, alongside Thomas and five-star guard Brayden Burries, is being heavily pursued by Alabama. Should any of these top players choose the Crimson Tide, Alabama’s already strong 2025 class—ranked No. 4, with commitments from Amari Allen and London Jemison—could make a push for the No. 1 spot.
During his visit, Dybantsa soaked in the gameday atmosphere, interacting with fans and enjoying the intense energy of the matchup. The game held significant importance as Alabama (ranked No. 4) battled Georgia (ranked No. 2), with both teams jockeying for SEC supremacy and a position in the newly expanded 12-team College Football Playoff.
Dybantsa, weighing his options between his final seven schools, soaked in the thrilling atmosphere at Bryant-Denny Stadium, interacting with fans and enjoying the game’s intensity.
Dybantsa's recruitment process has been deliberate and well thought out. The highly sought-after wing has already made visits to programs like Kansas, Kansas State and North Carolina, with more visits on the horizon.
He also visited Auburn this past spring to assess how he would fit into their culture and playing style.
"We knew what the culture was, we knew what the personality was, we knew what the coaching was and we knew what the playing style was. It was mainly about feeling where we best fit in at environment wise and style of play was," Dybantsa told 247Sports.
Currently spending his final prep year at Utah Prep in Hurricane, Utah, Dybantsa is adjusting to his new environment.
"I like the environment," he said. "The campus is good and the team is bonding well from the jump. We are getting ready for the actual season with these preseason games."
Utah Prep recently took a trip to China for a preseason competition, where it triumphed as champions.
"China was good. That was my first time over there. It was different, but it was a crazy experience going over there with the guys and actually winning the championship," Dybantsa said.
Alabama survives Georgia’s late surge in 41-34 thriller
The Alabama Crimson Tide narrowly escaped a monumental comeback attempt from the Georgia Bulldogs, clinching a 41-34 victory in the final moments. Georgia, despite its slow start, made a valiant push late in the game, coming up just short in the closing three minutes.
Georgia quarterback Carson Beck struggled early, heading into halftime with just eight completions. The Bulldogs managed only a rushing touchdown and a failed two-point conversion by the time they entered the locker room, trailing significantly.
For nearly two decades, former coach Nick Saban had dominated the Bulldogs, boasting an 8-2 record over Georgia during his tenure at Alabama, winning eight of the last nine matchups. But now, it’s Kalen DeBoer’s turn at the helm. DeBoer faced Georgia for the first time as Alabama coach.
The showdown at Bryant-Denny Stadium, now renamed Saban Field, featured No. 1 Georgia and No. 4 Alabama. DeBoer emphasized the importance of creating a hostile environment for their SEC rivals.
“We need to do our part to make the environment special, to be able to get our fans into it,” DeBoer said.
Georgia coach Kirby Smart, now in his ninth season with a 97-16 record, acknowledged DeBoer’s success.
“His record speaks for itself,” Smart said. “Everywhere he's been, he's been successful. He's very confident in what he does and his organizational methods."
DeBoer, who is 107-12 in his coaching career, led Washington to the national championship game last season and previously bested former Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning's Oregon three times by narrow margins.
