The No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2025, Aaliyah Chavez has a 98 rating from ESPN and On3. The 5-foot-11 point guard plays for Monterey High School and will enter her senior year this season.
While Chavez's Instagram is full of her spectacular highlights on the court, this time, the Lubbock, Texas, native posted a fun transition reel from media day. In the video, Chavez receives the ball from her teammate and rotates it on her finger in the locker room. The smooth transition sees the duo switch from the locker room to the court, with Chavez still rotating the ball on her finger.

Aaliyah Chavez leads Monterey girls basketball in points per game (37.8), field-goal percentage (49%), rebounds per game (10.1), assists per game (4.4), steals per game (3.5), blocks per game (0.9), free-throw percentage (91%) and 3-point field goal percentage (41%).
Chavez has received offers from programs across the nation, including LSU, Michigan, Texas Tech, Texas, South Carolina, USC and North Carolina. While she has yet to make a final decision, she released a list of her top 10 colleges. These included Arizona, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Texas Tech, UCLA and USC.
"I just want to thank all the coaches for their time invested into recruiting me on this journey," she wrote. "After much consideration me and my family have come down to a list of my top 10 schools."
In the three seasons with Monterey Varsity Basketball, Chavez averaged 31 points, 8.3 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 3 steals and 0.8 blocks per contest in 108 games. In the last season, she played 35 matches, scoring 37.8 points, grabbing 10.1 boards, dishing out 4.4 assists and stealing the ball 3.5 times per game.
What kind of coach does Aaliyah Chavez want to play under?
After narrowing the list to 10, Chavez has a tough decision to make about her collegiate career. Speaking to On3, she talked about this decision and how the coach can affect it.
"I don’t want a coach that’s low-energy, and I need to make sure that they’re going to be there the whole time. I don’t want a coach that’s just going to be there for two years … I want them to be there all four years."
According to On3, Texas Tech has the highest chance of recruiting Chavez, with a 32.5% probability. Texas Tech is followed by Texas with a 28.4% chance, closely followed by LSU with 24.4%.
