Lufkin High School four-star recruit Zion Williams committed to Louisiana State University on Thursday. The Tigers were heavy favorites to land the talented 6-foot-4 defenseman from Texas. Williams chose LSU over TCU and Texas.
Williams shared his excitement on his social media, where he announced the news. The Lufkin, Texas, native shared a video on his X (formerly Twitter) account, thanking his high school team's coaching staff and later revealing the team he would be playing for.
He removed his jacket and announced his commitment by revealing an LSU T-shirt. The 6-foot-4 defensive lineman became LSU's 13th commitment of the class of 2025. LSU is ranked 11th according to the Recruiting Team Rankings.
Williams is ranked as the 366th best overall prospect in the nation according to On3 Industry Ranking. He is also the 31st-best defensive lineman in the country, as per the same rankings.
Zion Williams talks about his soon-to-be defensive line coach, Bo Davis
Zion Williams' decision to play for the Baton Rouge-based team was largely due to the heavy recruiting by LSU's defensive line coach, Bo Davis. The former Miami Dolphins' assistant defensive line coach had Williams as one of his top targets during the recruiting phase.
Williams has already developed a strong relationship with Davis, and he spoke about it before he committed to LSU.
"Me and coach Bo have been talking since he was at UT," the four-star recruit told On3's Justin Wells. "I think he got a head start before anybody because he was the first coach I really got to know well. He knows me well as a person. LSU feels like the parts of my town where I grew up. It’s been fun down there so far."
Zion Williams also talked about LSU's head coach Brian Kelly in the same interview. Kelly visited Williams' high school in Texas in January.
"Never in my life would I think a head coach would come down from where they live to come talk to me. That’s a wild feeling," Williams said. "I love Coach Kelly, he’s a genuine person. At my school, we had a very personal conversation, and he didn’t hesitate to answer my questions for me. It showed me a lot about his character and his need and want to develop his players."
Williams played his high school football at Lufkin High School and was one of the best players in his position in the country.
