Kiyan Anthony, former NBA star Carmelo Anthony’s son and a four-star recruit, featured in Hoop Hall Classic’s ‘I Have A Dream’ sequence that honors Martin Luther King Jr. and his vision.
Martin Luther King Day is celebrated on the third Monday of January each year, close to his birth date, January 20. In the video, several young athletes, including Kiyan, Olivia Jones, Kade Sebastian, and Shaena Brew, recite extracts from Martin Luther King’s Martin’s infamous "I Have a Dream" speech, which he delivered on August 28, 1963, at the Lincoln Memorial.
Kiyan Anthony recites a fragment,
“This will be the day when all the God’s children will be able to sing and let freedom ring.”
The complete quote from the speech is
“This will be the day when all of God's children will be able to sing with new meaning: My country, 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrims' pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring.”
The Long Island Lutheran player adds what the extract means to him,
“I think that’s important because all of us, God’s children, was looking for freedom, back in the day. And now, every day, we’re pushing towards a better equality in the world.”
Honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King and his long struggle against racism, Kiyan Anthony emphasized the necessity to keep working towards the dream he envisioned.
