Caleb Tafua, a four-star tight end from the Class of 2026, committed to the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday. He had previously narrowed his choices to Texas A&M, California, USC and Washington on Dec. 11, ultimately deciding on the Aggies shortly thereafter. Other schools, including Michigan, LSU and Oregon, also pursued the talented prospect.

Tafua is a top 15 tight from the Class of 2026, but his choice did not sit well with many fans. The California native bypassed two in-state programs in his top four, opting instead for the Texas-based Aggies. On3 Recruits' post announcing Tafua's commitment drew a wide range of responses from fans.

Some fans were excited with the announcement, whereas others were confused with the four-star prospect's choice.

"Weird choice," one fan said.
"A&M doesn’t develop TE into the NFL," another fan wrote.
"Really Caleb Tafua has committed to Texas A&M," another fan commented.

The Aggies' fans were happy with the announcement and shared their feeling in the comment section of the post.

"Can’t blame him either," one fan wrote.
"Gig Em," another fan said.
"Good pickup for Elko," another fan commented.

The Mike Elko-led program has had a great start to its 2026 recruiting cycle. The Aggies have landed the commitments of nine athletes from the class and are poised to add more to their roster. The program's Class of 2026 is ranked No. 2, per 247Sports.

Caleb Tafua talks about his commitment to Texas A&M Aggies

The four-star tight end from Long Beach, California, Caleb Tafua, chose the Aggies after attending their game against the Texas Longhorns on Nov. 30.

The 6-foot-4 athlete spoke about his commitment to the program and his experience during the Aggies' game against Texas.

"It felt like that was where I needed to be," Tafua told On3. "It’s where I felt everybody around me getting hyped up. I see myself in those stadiums and playing for A&M. The 12th Man is very different. It’s very different out there in Texas because the state of Texas is all about football."

Tafua is ranked No. 244 and is the 12th-best tight end in the Class of 2026, per On3. He is also the 27th-best overall recruit in California.
