Shedeur Sanders has turned out to be one of the greatest things to happen to Colorado football, but when he was still in high school, there was a chance that Georgia could have had him. However, when the school called him over for a visit in December, his father, "Coach Prime" Deion Sanders, was not pleased, as he spoke in Overtime SZN's documentary series released in Nov. 2019.
During one video in the series, Shedeur talked about recruitment and how he would decide.
"Recently, I opened up my recruitment a little bit more and looked at all the colleges and all different conferences," said the then-high school quarterback. "It's a long list right now but eventually is gonna close tighter and tighter." (1:00-1:16)
Meanwhile, the elder Sanders said that sometimes, all it takes is just one bad thing an athlete would not like about that school to eliminate it from contention.
"I went to the University of Georgia, was freezing," said Coach Prime. "Why would you invite a Florida boy on a official visit in December? That don't make sense. My curl almost froze when I got off the plane." (1:36-1:51)
When Shedeur Sanders was playing for Trinity Christian School, he received several offers from some of the biggest college football programs, including Alabama, Baylor, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Tennessee, UCLA and more. He ultimately went to Jackson State in 2020, where his dad worked, before transferring to Colorado, and so did Coach Prime.
Coach Prime may coach Las Vegas Raiders thanks to Tom Brady
With the Las Vegas Raiders not doing too well in the NFL, the team may be looking for a new head coach. The team is also having quarterback woes, and Coach Prime and his son may be the answer. The Raiders currently have the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
A report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler is adding fuel to the rumors that Coach Prime might not be staying in Colorado too long.
“The belief among many in the league is that Tom Brady, now a minority owner of the Raiders, will have some level of influence over major decisions, and team owner Mark Davis will covet his knowledge and insight,” wrote Fowler. “If Brady is looking for a fellow GOAT, Sanders has a compelling case as the best cornerback in NFL history.”
Shedeur Sanders will declare for the 2025 NFL Draft, and this would cap off a successful run at Colorado, which is experiencing a resurgence with him as quarterback and Deion Sanders as head coach.
