Fans reacted as Saturday's showdown between Alijah Arenas' Chatsworth High School went down 61-60 to Long Beach Poly in an epic contest. The matchup not only delivered a ding-dong battle ending in a last-minute winner, but it was also a beautiful show of impressive free-scoring basketball from the standout players on both teams.
NBA veteran Gilbert Arenas' son, Alijah, was especially in his elements, as he delivered more than half of Chatsworth's 60 points. Unfortunately, his impressive 40-point haul wasn't enough, as Long Beach Poly's Jovani Ruff delivered 27 points, including two clutch free throws in the final seconds to seal victory for his team.
In an Instagram post shared by the popular basketball page @ballislife, fans saw highlights of the two players in action. As expected, the post generated a lot of reactions and comments.
Many comments were directed to Alijah Arenas' 3-pointer in the first few seconds, as the player appeared to have made the shot in a bit unconventional way. Fans were quite shocked that it went in.
"Wtf type of jumper is that?," one fan said.
"That jumper is crazy😭, but if it ain't broke don't fix it," another said.
"😂😂they screamed ew when he shot the ball," one fan commented.
"His shot looks awful, but hey, it works for him," said another.
A few comments, though, centered on Arenas' 40-point performance, with some suggesting that he might be a one-man team, as his impressive effort wasn't enough to secure a win for Chatsworth:
"Putting up 40 in a 60 point game is crazy. Does the man not have a team?," one fan said.
"Seems like teammates doesn't get any touches...probable hates playing with him," said another
"Alijah's whole team just standing around watching him, lol," another wrote.
"Bro scored 40 in a 60pt game and lost by😭😂 1 where his team at," another said.
Alijah Arenas has been crucial for the Chancellors this season, helping them to 10 wins in 15 games, averaging an impressive 31.3 points, 7.9 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game.
Where will Alijah Arenas play college basketball?
Five-star prospect Alijah Arenas hasn't committed to any college program. That's quite understandable, as he has got a lot of time to make a decision, being a class of 2026 recruit.
The Chatsworth star, who's No. 15 in the ESPN national rankings, could turn out to be a valuable addition to any college team. It's no wonder that he has 20 college offers.
According to ON3 predictions, UCLA and Arizona are at the forefront in the race to secure the 6-foot-5 shooting guard's commitment, with 34.4% and 30.1% chances, respectively. Next in line are Fresno State, Washington State, UTEP and Nevada, among others, who all have a 2% chance of securing the player.
