The high school football season is in full swing and a recent game between the No. 2 ranked St. John Bosco and No. 16 Orange Lutheran ended in a thrilling second-half comeback.
Koa Malau'ulu, St. John Bosco's freshman quarterback, helped his team overcome a 10-point first-half deficit to win the game 28-24.
Despite their impressive victory, fans on social media were not impressed with SportsCenter hyping a 10-point comeback against a relatively lower-ranked team by St. John Bosco.
Some fans claimed that the Braves were rated too highly and that it was not an extraordinary comeback. However, there was a section of fans who were amazed by the freshman quarterback's performance and the team's amazing comeback in the second half. Here are some of the reactions.
"Down 10-0 at half isn’t really that insane, good comeback tho," one fan said.
"10-0 at halftime is an insane comeback now? anything to avoid the embarrassment of admitting you ranked them too high I guess lol," another commented.
"Bro they was only down by 10 with a whole half left," another fan wrote.
There were some positive replies on the game as well.
"Down 10-0 to win with 50 seconds on the clock is a pretty insane game if you are watching it live," one fan commented.
"I was there. It was insane," another fan wrote.
"With a freshman playing at QB!" Another fan commented.
This win has helped St. John Bosco continue their unbeaten start to the season, which now extends to 6-0. Orange Lutheran on the other hand has slipped to 4-2.
St. John Bosco's head coach Jason Negro was impressed by Koa Malau'ulu's performance
St. John Bosco's comeback victory over Orange Lutheran on Friday was one for the history books. It was the first time that the Braves had started a freshman at quarterback and that signal-caller did not disappoint.
Koa Malau'ulu, son of former Arizona quarterback George Malau’ulu, led his team to an impressive 10-point comeback win over their state rivals and etched his name into the Braves' folklore. He received praise from his coach Jason Negro for his brilliant second-half performance.
"22 years of coaching, I’ve never started a freshman at quarterback," Negro said, as per Los Angeles Times. "He played one of the best quarterback performances in the second half we’ve ever had here."
Malau'ulu completed 20 of his 22 pass attempts for 270 yards, four touchdowns and an interception en route to a thrilling 28-24 win on Friday. That win kept their unbeaten start intact and improved their record to 6-0.
