Michigan quarterback Jadyn Davis has hinted at his intention to compete for the Wolverines’ starting quarterback spot despite five-star recruit Bryce Underwood’s arrival. Michigan has also added Mikey Keene to its QB room from the transfer portal.
When asked if he would enter the transfer portal with all the incomings, the true freshman told Rivals on Friday:
“I’ve never been scared to compete.”
The confident comment has garnered reactions from fans on social media, especially Instagram.
An Instagram user, "Slime_bugatti," thought Underwood was not wooed with an NIL deal worth more than $10 million to come and sit on the bench. They wrote:
“You think they paying 12Ms to compete?”
Another netizen, "Jackson_lary08," tried to relate to Davis’ motivation, commenting:
“Being a four-star and watching your team pay 8 figures for someone gotta be hella motivating.”
Other fans expressed surprise that Davis had been at Michigan all this while, like "Heariesdayoff," who wrote:
“Forgot they had this guy. What happened to him?”
Another fan, "Bo.watkins24," asked a similar question, wondering why the freshman did not get playing time this season. They wrote:
“Why didn’t they ever play Jadyn Davis this year?”
A fan, "_dregalasso_," hoped the quarterback would see action in the ReliaQuest Bowl against Alabama. They wrote:
“Hopefully they play him against Bama so we can see where he’s at and what we have.”
Jadyn Davis’ situation at Michigan vis-à-vis Bryce Underwood
Jadyn Davis arrived at Ann Arbor as a four-star prospect out of Providence High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. He signed for the Wolverines amid exciting promises about his future in maize and blue. The No. 8 quarterback in the 2024 class per On3 Industry Rankings, Davis didn’t get any substantial playing time in his true freshman season.
His prospect of getting any meaningful action as a Wolverine in the future has become slimmer with the signing of Bryce Underwood. What’s more, veteran quarterback Mikey Keene was brought in from the transfer portal in addition to Underwood, making the competition stiffer for Davis.
Michigan went all out to get Underwood’s signature, enlisting the help of NFL legend Tom Brady and the billionaire founder of Oracle, Larry Ellison. Getting the top prospect of the 2025 class to flip his commitment from LSU also involved an NIL deal estimated to be worth $10.2 million.
However, the prospect for Jadyn Davis is not entirely bleak. Depending on Michigan coach Sherrone Moore’s decision, he may get enough playing time to prove himself on a big stage at the ReliaQuest Bowl. Otherwise, he may just elect to enter the transfer portal and find an opportunity elsewhere.
