Elite Michigan quarterback signee Bryce Underwood said partnering with Colorado two-way star and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter would be "fire."
Underwood made the comment during an appearance on Donald De La Haye’s show, "Kicking It With Dee," on Saturday. When asked about the idea of playing alongside Hunter in the future, Underwood said:
“That’ll be fire, literally. That’ll be hard. I watched Travis when I was, like, a freshman. Eighth grade and stuff like that. So that’d be hard.” (21:40 mark)
Travis Hunter recently won college football’s most prestigious honor, the Heisman Trophy. He starred for Deion Sanders’ Colorado team as both a wide receiver and cornerback. Hunter also claimed the Chuck Bednarik Award and Fred Biletnikoff Award, becoming the first player in college football history to win both in the same season.
What do Bryce Underwood and Travis Hunter have in common?
While they play different positions and bring distinct qualities to the field, Bryce Underwood and Travis Hunter share notable parallels in their careers. Like Hunter, who was the top player in his recruiting class, Underwood holds that distinction for the class of 2025.
Both players also made high-profile commitment flips: Hunter switched from Florida State to Sanders’ Jackson State, while Underwood flipped his commitment from LSU to Michigan.
However, the likelihood of the two playing together, as discussed on Kicking It With Dee, is slim — at least at the college level. While Underwood is just beginning his college football journey, Hunter is projected to be a top-three pick in the 2025 NFL draft. Still, a future partnership in the NFL remains a possibility.
Bryce Underwood had a high school career that most players can only dream of. The 17-year-old from Belleville, Michigan, gained national recognition as a freshman, leading his team to an MHSAA state championship.
He shined in the title game against Rochester Adams High School, completing 12 of 21 pass attempts for 284 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for 62 yards and a touchdown. He repeated the feat in his sophomore season, achieving an undefeated season and another state championship with Belleville.
Underwood’s talent attracted offers from top college programs, including Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, Florida, Michigan and Penn State. Initially committing to LSU in January 2024, he flipped to Michigan in November before officially signing with the Wolverines.
He is seen as the solution to the Wolverines’ quarterback struggles and is expected to step into the starting quarterback role next season.
