Four-star prospect Amari Latimer is one of the biggest names at running back in the 2026 class. The Sandy Creek High School (Georgia) standout is versatile and has the caliber to combine immediate bursts through the hole with exceptional balance.

Latimer is the No. 20 running back in his class, the No. 28 recruit in Georgia and the No. 231 prospect in the nation. The 6-foot, 200-pounder has earned more than 20 offers, including interest from powerhouse programs across the Southeastern Conference and Big Ten. Some of his top schools are Tennessee, Miami, Wisconsin, Michigan and Texas.

Let's see which three programs have the most potential to secure Amari Latimer's commitment.

Top 3 schools vying for Amari Latimer's commitment

#3. Michigan

Michigan has become an attractive option for RBs due to the strong recruitment pitch of running backs coach Tony Alford, and Amari Latimer has also spoken highly of Alford.

"Coach Tony Alford is a great guy," Latimer told SI. "I talk to him almost every day and he’s a down to earth guy. He’s a really cool guy. Also, coach Jayden Everett is another great guy. When I went down there, it was a great atmosphere. All of the coaches knew who I was. I was walking around and getting love.”

Besides Latimer, Michigan is also a favorite to land blue-chip running backs Savion Hiter and Javian Osborne. Though the Wolverines have less than a 1% chance of securing Latimer's commitment, their success in the 2025 class, including the addition of five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, can be a strong pitch for him. Michigan has two commits in the 2026 class.

#2. Wisconsin

Though On3 gives Wisconsin less than a 1% chance of securing Amari Latimer's commitment, the Badgers heavily entered his recruitment race due to landing a transfer commitment from Jacksonville State cornerback Geimere Latimer last month, who is Amari’s older brother. Geimere has two years of eligibility remaining, and it's possible Amari can follow him to Madison.

Wisconsin has two committed players in the 2026 class: three-star quarterback Jarin Mock and three-star interior offensive lineman Benjamin Novak. If Latimer commits to the school, he will be its first four-star prospect in the cycle.

#1. Texas

Texas is considered the front-runner in Amari Latimer’s recruitment, and the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine gives the Longhorns an 88.1% chance of landing the elite running back.

Texas' 13-2 record this season proves why prospects like Latimer are so high on the program. The No. 5 Longhorns are awaiting their Cotton Bowl showdown against No. 8 Ohio State on Friday. A potential win in the College Football Playoff semifinal game would only increase the Longhorns' standing in his recruitment.

Even Texas' 2026 class also looks promising with the commitment of five-star quarterback Dia Bell and four-star wide receiver Chris Stewart. If he commits, he will be able to create a mighty trio with these two prospects.
