Four-star wide receiver Donovan Murph was initially a member of the 2026 class, but he reclassified to the 2025 class on Oct. 1. The standout from Irmo High School in South Carolina is set to announce his commitment decision on Thursday, Jan. 2, at the Under Armour All-America Game in Florida.
Murph is the No. 42 wide receiver in the 2025 class and the No. 6 prospect in South Carolina. He will sign in February, and his top five schools are Clemson, Colorado, South Carolina, Ole Miss and Tennessee.
Let's see which three programs have the most potential to secure Murph's commitment.
Top 3 schools vying for Donovan Murph's commitment
#3. Tennessee
Tennessee may not be the frontrunner for Donovan Murph’s commitment, but it remains a strong contender. The Volunteers’ 2025 class currently ranks in the top 15 nationally with 26 committed players, including three wide receivers: Travis Smith, Radarious Jackson and Joakim Dodson.
Although the Vols face stiff competition, their solid 10-3 record from the 2024 season gives them a boost in Murph's recruitment. Tennessee has been consistently competitive in recent years, and its offensive prowess might appeal to a wide receiver like Murph, who is looking for a chance to shine early in his college career.
#2. Clemson
Clemson has long been a player in Donovan Murph’s recruitment, offering him as the first wide receiver in the 2026 class before he reclassified. The Tigers have been a key point of his recruiting process, especially due to their ability to develop young talent.
“Just all the receivers that I’ve been seeing on the field, freshmen receivers at that, that are having great seasons,” Murph told The Clemson Insider. “Cade (Klubnik) is throwing them boys the ball. It don’t really matter how young you are, you’re gonna be in the system."
Murph also revealed Clemson's strong pitch in his recruitment, saying (via The State):
“They told me I fit the mold at Clemson. That I would be the best fit for them and can do great things early."
If Donovan Murph decides to be an early contributor, Clemson's 2025 class would be a perfect fit. The cycle ranks No. 24 in the nation with 15 committed players. It has a wide receiver commit in three-star prospect Carleton Preston, along with transfer receiver Tristan Smith.
#1. South Carolina
South Carolina wide receivers coach Mike Furrey is the primary recruiter for Donovan Murph in the Gamecocks, and the school is leading the race in his recruitment with a 97.3% chance of securing his commitment. He has been crystal-balled to the program by 247Sports Recruiting Analyst Anna Adams as well.
Murph is a cousin of former South Carolina great Alshon Jeffery, and the Gamecocks have made it clear that they want to keep local talent in-state.
“The message is still the same, come make an impact early and be a freshman phenom,” Murph told The State “They tell me with me I fit what they are trying to do and keeping the Columbia guys at home. They have a great quarterback in LaNorris (Sellers), a Heisman-caliber guy. They showed me they got a quarterback who can throw me the ball.”
South Carolina's 2025 class has five wide receiver commits in Malik Clark, Lex Cyrus, Jordon Gidron, Brian Rowe and Jayden Sellers. The cycle ranks No. 12 in the Southeastern Conference with 25 committed players.
