The University of North Carolina football program is poised for a seismic shift as legendary coach Bill Belichick prepares to take the helm in 2025. Following Mack Brown’s departure after a 6-6 season, the Tar Heels secured Belichick on a five-year, $50 million deal.

"I am excited for the opportunity at UNC-Chapel Hill," Belichick said in a statement, adding, "I grew up around college football with my Dad and treasured those times. I have always wanted to coach in college and now I look forward to building the football program in Chapel Hill."

With Belichick’s arrival, the focus on recruitment intensifies, and UNC’s 2025 class boasts standout talents ready to make an immediate impact.

Top three commits set to join coach Bill Belichick

#3. Bryce Baker

Bryce Baker has been a steadfast commit since June 2023. The East Forsyth star recently showcased his skill by leading his team to a commanding 49-6 victory over rival Glenn High School, throwing for 224 yards and four touchdowns on 16-of-21 passing.

Baker’s commitment to North Carolina remains unwavering despite the coaching transition.

"Bryce remains 100% committed to UNC and hopes his future college football days will be spent in Chapel Hill," Baker's father, Mike, said to Rivals.

#2. Austin Alexander

A versatile athlete with a strong two-way presence, Austin Alexander verbally committed to the Tar Heels in April 2024. The four-star recruit has been a key player for Cooper High School, where he made his announcement surrounded by family and teammates.

Alexander’s high school coach, Randy Borchers, lauded UNC’s consistent pursuit of the standout athlete, saying,

"The thing is (UNC) wanted him from day one," Borchers said, adding, "They really fell in love with him. Early on they went through a major change in the defensive coordinator position and I think that played a role in what he wanted to do."
"From day one they were never really changed with where they were with him and what they wanted to do. They were one of the schools that told me he's the complete package. When you look at North Carolina they're a tremendous academic school as well," Borchers expressed.

#1. Javion Butts

Javion Butts, a three-star defensive back from Jones County High School in Georgia, brings both leadership and tenacity to the field. Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 175 pounds, Butts has been a four-year letterman and team captain.

He ended up with 135 tackles, four interceptions, and 13 passes defended in his high school career. Having kicked off only with the fifth game of the season, his senior year statistics still include 37 tackles, two tackles for loss, and a forced fumble. It was the most productive season of his high school career, having 51 tackles, two interceptions, and six passes defended.
