Tyler Atkinson is a high school football player who is quite different from most. Perhaps what best highlights this difference is a video of him currently making rounds online.
In the video, Atkinson is shown carefully catching a snake. On Tuesday, he posted the video on X (formerly Twitter).
“Working on hand placement,” he captioned the post.
Atkinson, a rated five-star LB, is from Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia. Atkinson is the top linebacker in his class, according to the 247Sports Composite Ranking and the On3 Industry Ranking. The highly-rated linebacker has several schools seeking his commitment.
How many offers does Tyler Atkinson have?
Despite having two more seasons of high school football to play, Atkinson has 48 offers from colleges all over the country. He has also been on multiple unofficial visits to some of the top programs in the country, including Georgia, Alabama, Florida State, Auburn and LSU. With eight visits, Georgia leads the pack in Atkinson’s recruitment.
Atkinson has the unmistakable physical build of an athlete. His height is 6-foot-2, and he weighs 205 pounds. However, his ability to use his body effectively on the gridiron is more impressive than his physical build. Greg Biggins of 247Sports described him as a “physical player who runs over blockers and lives in the backfield.”
Despite the interest in his profile, Tyler Atkinson has narrowed his options down from 48 colleges to just 10. Those schools are Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, North Carolina, Ohio State, Tennessee and Texas.
Of all his chosen options, notwithstanding, the favorite program vying for his commitment is Georgia. Eight unofficial visits to Georgia cannot be easily overlooked.
Atkinson has been termed a priority target for the Bulldogs. And a cordial rapport with the coaching staff at Athens makes a commitment to Georgia seem imminent. However, there is no absolute certainty until an official announcement from the player.
