Soon-to-be former Michigan quarterback Alex Orji and five-star signee Bryce Underwood have been spotted together in training. In a photo that was posted on X (formerly Twitter) by 247Sport’s Alejandro Zuniga, the two appear to be having a conversation. The photo has received several reactions from fans on the platform.

A fan, Harvard Blue, advised Underwood in a lighthearted and joking manner to do the opposite of whatever Orji is saying. They wrote:

“Whatever he telling him, do the opposite.”

Another fan, LAC, wished Orji would stay at Michigan and switch positions from quarterback. They said:

“Orji might as well stay and switch positions. TE/H-Back/FB role with a package at QB would be intriguing if he wants to make it to the NFL.”

Another user, MJ TuneIn, expressed worry regarding how Underwood might fare under the rigorous college training regime. They wrote:

“That kid is effectively a HS senior. Is he even 18? Wait until the college training regime takes hold.”

A Michigan fan on the platform, Mr Drunk Beard, projected how Underwood would look when he enters the NFL draft. They said:

“Bryce Underwood is going to be the size of LeBron James by the time he’s the number pick in the NFL draft.”

Michigan's quarterback situation and Alex Orji's transfer

Following J.J. McCarthy’s transition to the NFL, Michigan has had an unstable quarterback situation for most of this season. Alex Orji, who has been one of the Wolverines’ quarterbacks for three seasons, is also set to move on. He recently announced his entry to the transfer portal.

During his three years at Michigan, the quarterback appeared in 20 games, including three starts this season. With his entry on the portal and Jack Tuttle’s retirement, Michigan’s quarterback depth ahead of the ReliaQuest Bowl has been worrisome.

Despite his plan to leave Ann Arbor, Orji committed to playing in the ReliaQuest Bowl against Alabama. The Wolverines, having signed top prospect Bryce Underwood and brought in Mikey Keene from the transfer portal, cannot feature these players until 2025. Therefore, Orji’s decision to participate in the Bowl game is crucial for Sherrone Moore’s team.

Michigan recruited Orji as a four-star prospect out of Sachse High School in Sachse, Texas, flipping his commitment from Virginia Tech. Despite his promising potential, his role with the team has primarily been as a backup to McCarthy.
