Daniel Jacobsen has got the whole college and high school basketball world talking. The 2024 Purdue commit will now be known as the hoops star who moved up more than 100 places in the rankings in two months.

Jacobsen was ranked No. 193 nationally by the 247Sports Composite Rankings in March. Two months on, however, he’s ending May ranked No. 86 on the same rankings.

The four-star, 7-foot-3 center is from Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. Brewster Academy is ranked No. 28 nationally and No. 1 in Portland Auburn by MaxPreps.

Jacobsen transferred to Brewster for his senior season. This was after stints at La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Legacy Early in Greenville, South Carolina.

Jacobsen started at La Cueva, where he spent the 2021-22 season averaging 6.3 points, 0.3 assists, and 5.6 rebounds per game. In his sophomore season at Legacy Early, Jacobsen averaged 4.8 ppg and 2.6 rpg, playing 15.5 minutes per game. He gained national attention at the 2023 annual Nike Peach Jam in Georgia, where he averaged 10.6 ppg and 6.0 rpg.

A look at Daniel Jacobsen’s recruitment

Daniel Jacobsen received 11 offers in total from top college basketball programs, including Purdue, Clemson, Creighton, Georgetown, Illinois, Minnesota and New Mexico. He also got offers from Providence, Tulsa, Wisconsin and Xavier.

At the height of his recruitment, Jacobsen visited three campuses. He visited Minnesota on Aug. 30, 2023, Purdue on Sept. 29, and Wisconsin on Oct. 13.

Jacobsen announced his commitment to Purdue on Nov. 3, signing his letter of intent on Nov. 8. He chose Purdue over close rivals, Wisconsin, which also made his final list. He joins a class of Purdue recruits ranked No. 22 by On3, including Kanon Catchings, Gicarri Harris, Raleigh Burgess, Jack Benter, and CJ Cox.

Jacobsen’s size is an obvious advantage, aided by his ability for fluid movement on the court. His strength may still leave a lot to be desired, but there has been a marked improvement over the years, with more to come. Other notable areas of strength for the Purdue commit are his shooting ability and range off the catch.

The recent increase in Daniel Jacobsen’s stock is most obvious in his inclusion in the USA U-18 national team roster for the FIBA AmeriCup. The tournament will begin on Jun. 3 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
