MBC Gayo Daejejeon: A legacy of music and farewell to Yoona as MC
The MBC Gayo Daejejeon is a popular annual music show aired by the Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) in South Korea. It first began in 1966 under the name MBC Ten Singers Match, a competition where ten singers competed for the title of "King of Ten Singers."
Initially broadcast live on MBC radio from Seoul Citizens Hall, the show transitioned to television in 1970. In 2005, MBC discontinued the practice of awarding prizes at the event following a boycott by multiple artists in 2004. The event was then rebranded as the MBC Gayo Daejejeon.
Since 2015, Yoona of Girls' Generation has served as the show's host. However, in 2024, she announced that she would step down from her MC role after this year's event.
“It’s already been 10 years since I started hosting the MBC Music Festival. The significance of this decade is immense, and I’m deeply grateful to have been part of this journey. I sincerely thank everyone who supported me, and I ask for your encouragement as I create warm memories during my final hosting of 2024,” she shared.
The '2024 MBC Gayo Daejejeon' is set to take place at the MBC Dream Center in Ilsan, Gyeonggi-do, on December 31.
