The worldwide popularity of these K-pop groups is nothing new. Starting from BTS to EXO, all these K-pop groups have a particular leader. However, some bands do not follow the rule of having a team leader.
A leader usually helps guide the group and solve problems, but BLACKPINK's agency believes they are doing well without one. Similarly, NewJeans' agency chose to forgo a traditional leader, resulting in a leaderless team.

BLACKPINK and other 5 K-pop groups without any leader

1) BLACKPINK
BLACKPINK is one of those K-pop groups without leaders, consisting of four members. YG Entertainment manages the group and the CEO of the label said in an interview with the media outlet Soompi that the group does not need an official leader.
The CEO added further that all these four members spend time together looking for solutions and finding one leader is difficult. Lisa, the youngest group member, appeared on the TV show Knowing Brothers and said that they divided responsibilities. Each member is good at some responsibilities so they do not need an official leader.
2) NewJeans
The 5th generation K-pop group NewJeans has no official leader. Min Hee-jin, The former CEO of ADOR, the agency behind the group, believes in rebellious moves and breaking the formula.
Additionally, the group has no particular designation for five members.

3) Miss A
Miss A, a second-generation K-pop group, also had no official leader. The group debuted in 2010 and disbanded after seven years. Consisting of four members, this K-pop band was managed by JYP Entertainment.
Bae Suzy, one of the prominent members of the group, has showcased her acting skills in K-dramas such as While You Were Sleeping, Start-up, Doona, etc. Other members of the group are Wang Feifei, Min and Meng Jia.
4) Riize
Riize, one of the K-pop groups without leaders, debuted in 2023. The boy band comes under SM Entertainment and consists of seven members. The agency has not designated any member as its official leader.
However, on their Weverse profile, the members are introduced with different designations, such as 'the unrivaled performer' or 'the tallest member.'
5) K.A.R.D
Another K-pop band with no leaders is K.A.R.D. The group has been active since 2016 but officially debuted in 2017 with the Hola Hola mini album. The group consists of four members and it is a mixed-gender band.
This group has a huge fan base in Europe and America. In August, the group released its seventh album Where to Now?
6) 2PM
2PM debuted with a leader in 2008. Park Jaebum was the official leader of the group, but after a year, he left the band due to a 2005 controversy. In 2005, the K-pop idol commented on MySpace, which caused outrage among fans.
Although the leader apologized to fans, the controversy did not subside. Later, Park Jaebum quit the group in 2009 with a note. The agency JYP Entertainment replied to it, stating that it had not made any decisions then.
