On October 28, 2024, Netflix announced seven new Korean titles lined up for release this November on the popular streaming platform. The grab bag contains a wide range of titles including the 2022 love-triangle contract marriage drama Love in Contract and several Netflix originals like When the Phone Rings, in which an abductor's phone call threatens a couple's life.
Viewers can pick from genres like rom-coms and contract relationships to romance-thrillers, zombie-apocalypse, and period dramas. The line-up includes casts, comprising the likes of Gong Yoo, Yoo Yeon-seok, Lee Yi-kyung, Lim Ji-yeon, and more.
Here's a list of the upcoming K-dramas on Netflix for November 2024, complete with their plots and release dates (known so far) to mark your calendars.
The Trunk, Mr. Plankton, Marry You, & more: A list full of K-shows releasing on Netflix in November 2024
1) Mr. Plankton
Mr. Plankton, directed by Hong Jong-chan (Her Private Life, Juvenile Justice), tells the story of Hae-jo (Woo Do-hwan) who is looked down upon by society for not knowing the identity of his real father. Upon learning a life-altering news one day, he decides to journey to find his father.
Accompanying him is his ex-girlfriend Jo Jae-mi (Lee Yoo-mi), who always wanted a family and is set to marry Eo Heung (Oh Jung-se), the heir to a family-run food company. However, Jae-mi is disliked by the Eo family including Eo Heung's mother, Beom Ho-ja (Kim Hae-sook). But they agree to let Eo Heung marry her when the latter reveals that she is pregnant.
The plot thickens when on the day of the wedding, just ahead of the ceremony, the unlucky bride-to-be runs off with the outcast, Hae-jo, on the quest for his father. The rom-com series is set to have 10 episodes and will premiere on Netflix on November 8.
2) Love in Contract
Love in Contract (initially released in 2022), was directed by Nam Sung-woo (My Lovely Liar, My Roommate Is a Gumiho). The rom-com is about the beautiful and charismatic Choi Sang-eun (Park Min-young), a professional in the contract marriage field. With unrivaled qualities, she uses her talents to fit the role of a perfect partner for her clients, instead of actually marrying.
This, in turn, allows people to live a single life without having to commit to relationships. She plays wife to her client of 5 years, the mysterious Jung Ji-ho (Go Kyung-pyo) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. While she develops unexpected feelings for Ji-ho.
She also harbors emotions for one of her new clients, the famous actor, Kang Hae-jin (Kim Jae-young), with whom she shares a contract marriage on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. A love triangle evolves out of this professional and personal dilemma Sang-eun faces between the two men. Love in Contract has 16 episodes and will be available on Netflix on November 11.
3) Marry You
Described as a 'matchmaking romance,' Marry You is about an island bachelor, Bong Cheol-hui (Lee Yi-kyung), who meets all requirements to avoid marriage. The drama further explores the struggles of civil servant, Jung Ha-na (Jo Soo-min), who is a staunch non-marriage believer.
She enters the hastily formed 'Marriage Fraud Promotion Team' developed solely to make Bong Cheol-hui tie the knot. Directed by Yoon Yeo-chang (Hot Blooded Detective, Secret Visitor), this rom-com premieres on Netflix on November 16. The show is slated to have 12 episodes.
4) Zombieverse: New Blood
After the groundbreaking success of the titular first installment, Zombieverse: New Blood is set to bring more action, humor, and zombie-outbreak craziness in an expanded universe beyond Seoul. The new season will be helmed by directors Park Jin-kyung (My Little Television) and Moon Sang-don (Welcome, First Time in Korea?)
Viewers of the unscripted reality TV program are likely to be entertained as both the old cast and multiple new faces are roped in for the new season. Their tasks include trying to outwit and survive against a tougher and more cunning batch of the undead and going on challenging quests.
Returning cast members include Ro Hong-chul, Lee Si-young, DinDin, Dex, TSUKI, and YIOMBI PATRICIA. Meanwhile, new names comprise well-loved musical artists and popular figures like CHO SAEHO, Defconn, TAEYEON, Yook Sung-jae, Code Kunst, KWON EUNBI, Kim Seon-tae, and Andre Rush. With seven episodes, the show premieres on November 19.
5) When the Phone Rings
When the Phone Rings, adapted from the web novel The Number You Have Dialed by Geon Eomul Nyeo, dives into the lives of a "Show Window" couple. Directed by Park Sang-woo (The Forbidden Marriage, Never Twice), the show tells the story of Baek Sa-eon (Yoo Yeon-seok) who hails from a powerful political family and became Korea's youngest presidential spokesman.
His impressive career also includes experience as a war correspondent, hostage negotiator, and lead anchorman. He married Hong Hui-ju (Chae Soo-bin), the daughter of a newspaper proprietor, three years ago. Hui-ju developed mutism after a childhood accident and now works as a sign language interpreter in court and on television.
Their marriage has been one of convenience and for the past 3 years, they have neither shared conversations nor meals. While they pretend to appear as a perfect couple, their lives are turned upside-down when Hui-ju is abducted by an unknown figure. Their marriage begins to transform in the wake of her kidnapping. The show is set to have 12 episodes and will premiere on Netflix on November 22.
6) The Tale of Lady Ok
Whisking viewers off to the Joseon period, The Tale of Lady Ok introduces them to Ok Tae-young (Lim Ji-yeon), a legal expert known for her intelligence, strong work ethic, and athletic abilities. She offers help to those in need, despite challenging situations, earning the admiration of the community.
However, she hides a secret - her name, husband, and social status are all made up. One day, she crosses paths with Cheon Seung-whee (Choo Young-woo), a storyteller who goes around the country reciting novels to listeners.
Captivated by Ok Tae-young at first sight, he is determined to stay by her side and offer help no matter the circumstances. For those looking for a romantic period drama, this Netflix show premieres on November 30. The show, directed by Jin Hyeok (Sisyphus: The Myth, Doctor Stranger), will have 16 episodes.
7) The Trunk
The Trunk, directed by Kim Kyu-tae (Our Blues, Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo), narrates the story of Han Jeong-won (Gong-yoo). Han is a reclusive music producer, who ends up in a surprising contract marriage with Noh In-ji (Seo Hyun-jin), an employee at NM (New Marriage) which is a matchmaking service.
Ironically, it is Jeong-won's ex-wife, Seo-yeon, who arranges this "second wife" through the organization, in a last-ditch attempt to salvage their past relationship. In-ji is deeply lonely, despite meeting a different contract husband every year as part of her work.
All it takes is a mysterious trunk discovered in a lake to stir up turbulence in their lives, as secrets and events connected to the matchmaking service begin to emerge. An adaptation of the novel Trunk by Kim Ryeo-ryeong, the drama is set to premiere on Netflix on November 29. It is expected to have eight episodes.
