In the premiere episode of Bad Memory Eraser, Ju-yeon performs this experiment on Lee Goon and erases the bad memories of his past.

Bad Memory Eraser episode 1 recap: Lee Goon fell into the river after Kyung Ju-yeon’s harsh treatment

The first episode of Bad Memory Eraser begins with the childhood memory of Lee Goon, set in 2007. It is the time when he was a thirteen-year-old boy. He recalls himself being a star tennis player in South Korea, while his younger brother looks up to him.

It was during this Junior World Championship that Lee Goon hurt his hand while saving his younger brother from getting hit by a tennis racket during the game. This bad memory gets etched like a tattoo in his brain.

Coming back to the present in Bad Memory Eraser, Lee Goon is seen on a plane with his family. They are returning to Korea. While his family is sleeping, he heads to the bar to have more drinks.

In the bar, Goon comes across Kyung Ju-yeon, who is a psychiatrist. She is preparing for her presentation related to PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). Goon sits next to her and orders his drink. He speaks to the bar attendant about his class reunion invitation and about meeting his first love.

He sees that there is something on Ju-yeon’s face, so he offers her a tissue. At the same time, the plane faces turbulence, and mistakenly, Goon’s hand goes on Ju Yeon’s lips, disturbing her temporary veneer.

Due to more turbulence, Goon falls to the floor. Ju Yeon leaves the scene, while Goon, who’s still on the floor, goes back into another flashback. He recalls how, after his accident during the game, he overheard his parents saying that they used all their retirement money to fund Goon’s training in Australia.

His parents decide to move to Australia and train his younger brother, Lee Shin, in place of Goon. They left Goon with his grandmother.

While they were leaving, Goon followed them and stopped when exhausted. Following this, Goon happens to fall into the water while saving his medal. A young girl saves him and disappears.

Coming back to the present (presumably in 2022), the plane lands in Korea. Lee Shin (Lee Jong-won), Goon’s younger brother, is the winner of Wimbledon 2022. His parents force Goon, who is also Shin’s manager, to put on Shin’s clothes in order to protect him from the reporters. At the airport gate, Goon accidentally switches bags with Ju Yeon.

In the next scene, Kyung Ju-yeon, who is a psychiatrist, is seen giving a presentation to her fellow doctors about their ongoing research on the Bad Memory Eraser. Ju-yeon believes that everyone has at least one bad memory caused by any serious accident or physical harm.

And once this memory is created, it becomes an irreversible trauma. So far, she has performed this experiment on a rat. Meanwhile, Lee Goon, who has low self-esteem, lives in a storage room. He feels that he is the least important person in his family, as his parents seem to care more about his younger brother.

After her successful presentation, when Ju Yeon opens her bag to look for her research reports from the UK. She realizes that it isn’t her but Lee Goon’s bag. She immediately calls the airport to check for the contact details of Lee Goon and gives him a call.

On the other hand, Goon meets Cha Si-on at his agency. Goon, who works as Shin’s manager at the agency, finds out that Cha Si-on is her fan. But soon she looks down on him when the agency’s senior person humiliates him and tells him that he was just mooching off his little brother. This triggers his trauma, and he feels pain in his hand.

He immediately rushes to the hospital. Ju Yeon, on the other hand, was constantly leaving voice messages on Goon’s phone as she was desperately seeking her luggage.

In the hospital, Goon meets Ju-yeon. He requests strong painkillers for his hand, but Ju-yeon refuses as it is a fake pain, which is due to Goon’s neurosis. The two enter into a heated argument as Ju-yeon offers him psychiatric treatment, but Goon refuses. He says that he can even sell his soul to forget his bad memory.

When he was leaving, Ju-yeon asked him if he had met his first love yet, as she overheard his conversation on the plane. He replies that he doesn’t want to turn his good memories into bad memories by doing so and leaves.

Ju-yeon looks at his patient profile and finds his name. No sooner did she realize that she had switched her luggage with him. She again drops another voice message on Goon’s number, expressing her apologies for underestimating the seriousness of his pain and trauma. Soon, she receives a reply from Goon, who agrees to return her luggage.

The next day, Goon brings Ju-yeon’s luggage to the hospital, where Lee Shin comes with him for his psychiatric checkup. Meanwhile, Ju Yeon is preparing for the Bad Memory Eraser project presentation in front of the minister.

For the presentation, some of her fellow doctors were taking her lab rat to the seminar room when the box suddenly fell and the rat escaped. Ju-yeon and her colleagues were trying to catch it, but the rat suddenly ran out of the hospital and accidentally fell under Goon’s van.

Seeing Ju-yeon sad, Goon offers compensation for her dead rat. To this, she responds with hostility and tells him that he will never forget his bad memories until the day he dies. This makes Goon more miserable.

Ju Yeon enters the seminar room with a dead rat in her hand and requests that the minister grant them a budget and permission for 100 days. She says that she will now perform this Bad Memory Eraser experiment on a human and no more on animals, and then give them results. This is going to be the 108th experiment of her Bad Memory Eraser project. Her request gets accepted.

Goon is badly hurt by Ju Yeon’s words, and he leaves the house. Towards the end of this episode, he is rushed to the hospital after falling from the bridge into the river. He is operated on, and on Shin’s request, they perform the Bad Memory Eraser experiment on Goon and clear all his bad memories.

Ju-yeon feels guilty about being so rude to Goon and thinks it all happened because of her harsh words.

Finally, after a few days, Goon wakes up. After some time, Ju-yeon enters his room for a checkup. She looks at Goon and asks him if he remembers everything. He steps forward and calls Ju-yeon his first love. This strange ending leaves the viewers filled with curiosity about what’s happening next.

The Bad Memory Eraser airs every Friday and Saturday at 09:40 PM KST on the MBN network. Besides, the Bad Memory Eraser will also air on Viki for viewers in other countries.
