It is after this conversation with Ha Seol that Su-ho gives the painting to Jeong-woo in episode 1. Viewers also see that there is more to Jeong-woo's mother Jeong Geum-hee than meets the eye. She denounces him in front of everyone, the flashback tells a different story wherein she believes her son to be innocent.

On the morning of the accident, Jeong Geum-hee goes to market. It appears as if she is being followed. As it starts to rain, she walks on an overpass bridge, and the camera shows a car as she suddenly falls. This causes a commotion in the market, and a man dressed in black is seen running away without opening his umbrella.

The ambulance rushes Mrs. Jeong Geum-hee to the hospital. Meanwhile, the police question the shop owners in the market about the accident. One of the fruit sellers tells the police she thinks that the mother has committed suicide. However, Noh Sang-cheol does not think so as she just brought beef and fruits, indicating she was planning to cook a meal soon. He believes that Jeong Geum-hee might have been pushed in this rainy weather.

The man in all-black is revealed to be the father of Jeong-u's friend, Yang Byeong-mu. He rushes to a hospital, dripping in water, where he seems to work. One of Jeong-woo's friends is a nurse at the same hospital and tries to call up Jeong-woo after seeing his mother. Jeong-woo runs off to the warehouse where those two murders took place as soon as he sees Su-ho's painting.

Su-ho and Ha Seol get to know of Geum-hee's accident. Su-ho tells Ha Seol to find Jeong-woo, to which she replies that Su-ho should stay away from Jeong-woo as he is scary and despicable. Su-ho does not like it and warns Ha Seol to not say such things.

Su-ho pretends to not know of Jeong-woo whereabouts but directs the search in the right direction. They find him at the warehouse and as Su-ho approaches him, Jeong-u, in a pitiful state, holds Su-ho's hands and murmurs "I didn't kill them". Ha Seol takes Jeong-woo to the hospital where he suspects Shim Bo-yeon's father Shim Dong-min.

As the police go through the dashcam videos of cars present in the market to find a clue, No Sang-cheol spots the man, dressed in all-black to be suspicious. Yang Byeong-mu realises that this man is his father. He tries to erase the video but is caught by Sang-cheol. Byeong-mu has to reveal the identity of this man which leads the police to the hospital.

Yang Heseung-su leaves the hospital from right under the police's nose. He takes the bus wherein he meets Jeong-u who tells him about his mother's accident. Yang Heseung-su, unsettled, gets off the bus immediately. He takes a taxi and reaches the restaurant where Lee Jae-hee and others are surprised to see him taking a taxi.

Ha-Soel finds it strange that all of them are here when the 'kitchen lady', Jeong Geum-hee is in the hospital. She notices Shim Dong-min's muddy shoes but shrugs it off. Jeong-woo arrives at the restaurant which leads Lee Jae-hee to scream out loud. He gets into a scuffle with Shim Dong-min as he accuses him of his mother's accident. Shim Dong-min, hits Jeong-u with a bottle, making him bleed.

Lee Jae-hee escorts Shim Dong-min out as things heat up and as they drive off, the police arrive and take Yang Heung-su for questioning. Noh Sang-cheol tries to get information from Heung-su, but he remains tight-lipped. The police chief urges Sang-cheol to speed up the process by appealing to Heung-su's sympathy for his son's friend, who they refer to as a "victim." This word alarms Heung-su, who insists that Jeong-u is not a victim but a murderer.

This leads Sang-cheol to search up Jeong-woo's past and shows his disgust towards Jeong-u when he sees him at the police chief's house. There, they meet Heung-su who tells them that Jeong Geum-hee slipped on her own. Su-oh reveals another painting showcasing a person in the background watching an individual grabbing someone's neck.

The next morning as Hyun Gu-tak drops Jeong-u to the police station to get his mother's belongings, he tells him not to get disappointed. Jeong-u asks him how far was the search for the bodies of the girls going. It unsettles Gu-tak, but Jeong-u asks him if another search is possible.

Episode 2 ends with Noh Sang-cheol getting suspicious of everyone in the town for not just the accident of Geum-hee but also the two murders that happened 10 years ago.
