Black Out episode 3 recap: Goh Jeong-woo searches for clues
Black Out episode 3 begins with Goh Jeong-woo investigating her mother's accident as he tries to trace her activities on the morning of the accident. However, he senses someone following him, which turns out to be the police officer Noh Sang-cheol. Jeong-woo asks him how far the investigation for his mother's accident has come, but Sang-cheol tells him that Jeong-woo needs to focus on finding the bodies of the two girls.
Sang-cheol revisits the bridge from where Jeong Geum-hee fell and is certain Yang Heung-se must know something about the incident. He finds it interesting that everyone in the town despises Jeong-woo and believes his arrival must have triggered this chain of events.
Su-oh descends from the stairs into a dark and dingy room, which seems to be a basement hidden inside his greenhouse. Jeong-woo's mother moves from the ICU to the room. Ha Seol visits Su-ho at the greenhouse and tries to get a peak at the painting Su-ho hid under a cover, but Su-ho resists. Viewers see Ha Seol's past as a medical student during a flashback.
At the hospital, Yang Heung-su visits Jeong-woo's mother in the ICU. When he doesn't find her in the ICU, he gets worried and franticly asks the nurse whether the patient has died. He looks relieved when he gets to know that the patient was moved to a room. As he makes his way to the room in the garb of fulfilling his cleaning duty, he meets Jeong-woo, who tells him to reveal the truth if he knows something.
Yang Heung-su pushes him and evades the place, but Jeong-woo follows him. Irritated, Heung-su corners Jeong-woo and asks him to leave this place as he does not belong here. He insists that if Jeong-woo disappears, nothing will go wrong.
Finding a dog cute, Ha Seol approaches it. The dog and its owner are in their house garden, and Ha Seol notices a bone and asks the owner where they got it. The owner tells her she picked it up from near a drain in the village near Mucheon a few days ago. Ha Seol looks worried and instantly clicks its picture.
In episode 3 of Black Out, Heung-su leaves the hospital and calls someone, telling them to meet him at their house and not at Mucheon Garden (the restaurant). Jeong-woo follows Heung-su with a taxi as he boards a bus.
Noh Sang-cheol tries to trace Jeong Geum-hee's steps. While investigating, he checks a CCTV footage of a convenience store in which he spots Lee Jae-hee. Jae-hee had seen Jeung Geum-hee walking in the market, and seeing her through the shop, she instantly made a call. Sang-cheol captures the still of Jae-hee making a call. He sends the picture to Byeong-mu, who informs him that she is Bo-yeong's mother.
Jeong-woo is standing in front of Bo-yeong's home. He gets a flashback, which shows how disturbed her home was due to her father, Shim Dong-min's drinking habit. Jeong-woo has followed Heung-su to Bo-yeong's home. However, their sounds come from a different house, and he realizes Bo-yeong's parents have shifted to a different house in the same neighborhood.
As Heung-su enters Dong-min's house, he meets Lee Jae-hee. She tells him since she is the sole earner of this family and needs to go out and work. Byeong-mu has arranged a meeting of Jae-hee and Sang-cheol. Sang-cheol pretends to need insurance, which Jae-hee sells. Under the garb of giving his number, he gets Jae-hee's phone to check for her call logs.
At Dong-min's house, he is seen drinking early in the morning. Heung-su asks him why he "did that" to Jeong-woo's mother. He exclaims that he saw him pushing her and he did not need to go that far when Jeong-woo was planning to leave in a day. Dong-min refutes the allegations, and Heung-su tells him he is not reporting him to the police for Bo-yeong's sake.
Noh Sang-cheol, too, finds out that she called her husband the moment she saw Geum-hee in the market. He starts reinvestigating the accident without informing the police chief. He and his team began searching and tracing Dong-min's activities on the CCTVs of the shops on the street.
Dong-min begins clearing any evidence associated with the accident, but Jeong-woo catches him erasing the evidence. The police arrive before Dong-min can do anything, as Jeong-woo had called Sang-cheol beforehand. They arrest Dong-min for the attempted murder of Jeong Geum-hee.
At the police station, Ha Seol comes with the bone and gives it to Byeong-mu. Jeong-woo overhears the conversation and asks her where was the bone found. She directs him to the place.
During the interrogation, Sang-cheol instigates Dong-min by mentioning Jeong-woo. Dong-min enviously shares how Jeong-woo was always at the top, and came from a rich family who previously owned 'Mucheon Garden' (where Jeong Geum-hee is a kitchen lady). He also told Sang-cheol how Jeong-woo got admitted to Hanguk University Medical School. He frantically exclaims that Jeong-woo had nothing to lose, yet he killed his daughter, calling him a psychopath.
While searching for some clues surrounding the bone, Jeong-woo explores drains in the neighborhood. Ha Seol asks him why he is going to such lengths when he has already served his punishment. He says that he still feels unsettled and wishes to uncover the truth. Ha Seol then guides him to another man-hole nearby, and he finds bones scattered around down the drain.
At the police station, Dong-min finally admits to pushing Jeong Geum-hee from the overpass. Byeong-mu gets a call from Ha Seol as she is worried about Jeong-woo, but he tells her there is nothing to worry about. Sang-cheol overhears the conversation and goes to the scene, believing Jeong-woo will erase the evidence.
Black Out episode 3 ends with police reaching the scene where bones were found. The bones are suspected to be of Shim Bo-yeong due to the presence of her school nametag nearby.
