Black Out episode 4 recap: One of the two missing bodies is found
Black Out episode 4 opens with Jeong-woo hallucinating Shim Bo-yeong sitting at the top of the drain with a bloodied head, thanking Jeong-woo for finding her. Jeong-woo begs Sang-cheol to find the real culprit.
It is revealed that only one of the two bodies is found, that is, of Shim Bo-yeong. When her mother arrives at the scene, she frantically asks to be let in, but she is denied access due to an ongoing investigation. Overwhelmed by the emotions, she becomes unconscious.
Instead of taking him to the police station, Noh Sang-cheol takes Jeong-woo to the warehouse, where the murders supposedly happened ten years ago. He planned to make Jeong-woo remember.
It is revealed that one of the girls, Park Da-eun, was Jeong-woo's girlfriend. Sang-cheol tries to paint a horrific picture of the murders so that Jeong-woo remembers. Jeong-woo with a firm belief tells Sang-cheol that he did not kill his friends, he was not here.
At the police station, Ha Seol and Jeong-woo provide their statements. Jeong-woo confirms with Byeong-mu that when they were students, no one knew of such a place in Cheonsu.
In Black Out episode 4, Ha Seol visits Su-ho to tell him the news as he is acquainted with Shim Bo-yeong. However, Su-ho gets extremely agitated and starts throwing things and ends up getting a seizure. Following this, we see that Ha Seol is taken aback by seeing one of the paintings of Su-ho. In the ambulance, Su-ho tells Ha Seol that "it is not Jeong-woo."
On the other hand, Sang-cheol finds it strange that it took the police 80 days from the start of the investigation to the sentencing, wherein Jeong-woo pleaded guilty to all charges without any trial. He postulates this strange chain of events to the police chief, Hyun Gu-tak. It is revealed that Gu-tak asked Jeong-woo to plead guilty without trial to lessen his sentence.
Assemblywomen Ye Yeong-sil visits Lee Jae-hee at her house after hearing the news. Lee Jae-hee and her friends complain about how it is unfair that the killer of her daughter is still roaming free. The congresswoman promises to pass a law that protects the rights of the victim and leaves after offering her condolences.
Meanwhile, Jeong-woo rummages through his old stuff to look for clues that may help fill in some blanks. While looking at his old pictures, he remembers that Bo-yeong had been crying even before she met him that day. Then he finds old $10 receipts from the gas station. As a student, he could only afford $10 worth of gas, and he remembered that day his car was out of gas.
At the hospital, Su-ho asks Ha Seol to bring his paintings in secret. His doctor, who is friends with Hyun Gu-tak, Su-ho's father, is surprised to know that Su-ho has never told him about Ha Seol. Su-ho's caretaker at home informs Gu-tak about the 'strange' painting Su-ho has painted, which forces him to stop by the house before going to the hospital. He sees his paintings and burns them.
In Black Out episode 4, Na-gyeom finds Jeong-woo at the gas station through a GPS tracker. The station owner refuses to help Jeong-woo. Na-gyeom asks Jeong-woo to leave this town with her, but he declines. He says that he cannot leave until Da-eun is found. Upon her further insistence, Jeong-woo clarifies that he has never led her on and that she should get on with her life.
a Seol finds no paintings in Su-ho's greenhouse or his bedroom. She is startled by the sudden appearance of Gu-tak as she tries to find the paintings. He reprimands her for sneaking into someone's house. He also forbids her to visit Su-ho for a while under the garb that he needs complete rest.
Na-gyeom meets with her future director. While talking about eternal love, she reveals that, in her case, she would give up anything for him and would also not care if he killed someone. Na-gyeom reveals that she became an actress to get attention from Jeong-woo.
Su-ho's psychiatrist opened a center for s*xual violence victims at the hospital with the help of Gu-tak. As he consoles a female patient, he gives her a handkerchief to wipe off her tears. As she returns it, his fingers brush along her hand, making her awkward. He receives a message from an unknown number, which reads, "You killed me 11 years ago." The text makes him gasp for air.
On the other hand, Kim Hui-do reveals that he could make a quick arrest ten years ago because Da-eun's grandmother was on a call with her that day and heard someone beating her. Intrigued, Sang-cheol further asks him how was the site of the crime as Hui-do was the one who retrieved Jeong-woo's bloody and muddy sneakers.
At the hospital, Gu-tak and the psychiatrist discuss Su-ho's epileptic attack. The psychiatrist points out that it can be triggered by changes in his environment or when he meets strangers. An association between Jeong-woo and the psychiatrist is revealed as about ten years ago, Jeong-woo volunteered at the hospital with Geon-oh.
Later, in episode 4 of Black Out, Gu-tak asks him whether Su-ho can draw something he dreams or imagines. The psychiatrist uncomfortably says yes and tells him that they should try changing his medication.
At Mucheon Garden, Ha Seol defends Jeong-woo in front of Dong-min's friends by pointing out that he has no incentive to search for her body as he has already completed his sentence. This annoys the old men. But they decide to drive him out before the town faces economic repercussions.
Ha Seol questions about the abandoned warehouse where the murders happened. It is revealed that it belonged to Jeong-woo's family. She is reminded of Su-ho's painting she saw in the greenhouse, which had the bloodied body of a girl lying on the ground with around 4 people watching her.
The psychiatrist is the husband of Assemblywoman Ye Yeong-sil. He meets her for a charity event. They both sit at opposite ends of the room, with a gaping distance between them, but in front of people, they act as the perfect couple.
The forensics confirm the identity of the corpse to be Shim Bo-yeong. It also disclosed that despite the deterioration over the years, they found a bra but no underwear on the corpse. This makes Noh Sang-cheol assume that it is likely that the victim was sexually assaulted.
Jeong-woo goes to the warehouse with his friend, Min-su, who is also a nurse at the hospital. Jeong-woo tries to ask Min-su if they met Bo-yeong without Jeong-woo at the warehouse. Min-su exclaims that he was with Byeong-mu at Geon-hu's house.
He states that he only acted friendly with Jeong-woo after his release for old times' sake and leaves, frustratedly. Jeong-woo suspects anyone who can drive could have taken his car to abandon Bo-yeong as the keys always remained in the toolbox.
Black Out episode 4 ends with a shocking revelation as it exposes a closer relationship between Hyun Gu-tak and Lee Jae-hee, who worked at Gu-tak's house for ten years. Sitting at his kitchen table, she asserts that:
"Bo-yeong was killed by us."
