The 2024 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) celebrated the best in global music, and K-pop artists like BTS’ Jungkook, SEVENTEEN, and Stray Kids secured major wins. Held on December 12, 2024, ET (December 13 KST/IST) at the Los Angeles’ Wilshire Boulevard, the ceremony recognized achievements across various music genres, with a notable emphasis on K-pop.
BTS’ Jungkook emerged as one of the night's biggest stars, taking home two awards. His debut solo album GOLDEN won 'Top K-pop Album', while his hit track Standing Next to You claimed the title of 'Top Global K-pop Song'. This marked another milestone in his solo career, following his 2023 Billboard Music Awards success, where he won 'Top Global K-pop Song,' presented by Marriott Bonvoy.
SEVENTEEN also had a memorable evening, winning the 'Top K-pop Touring Artist', an accolade that highlights their record-breaking ongoing SEVENTEEN RIGHT HERE world tour in 2024. The group delivered their maiden performance on their hit single Love, Money, Fame, which debuted at #50 on the Billboard Global 200. This was SEVENTEEN's first-ever nomination and win at the BBMAs.
SEVENTEEN took to the streets in Los Angeles to film their live performance on Love, Money, Fame— a collaboration with Grammy-winning artist DJ Khaleed, although he wasn't present this time. The 13-piece K-pop group took the camera from the street to the Santa Monica Pier in between their song.
Stray Kids added to the K-pop triumph by winning 'Top Global K-pop Artist,' reflecting their growing international fanbase and influence. Their electrifying performances of Chk Chk Boom and JJAM were among the night’s most talked-about moments, as they took two stages to deliver their performances.
2024 Billboard Music Awards: A historic journey for K-pop from past till present
K-pop’s journey at the Billboard Music Awards began in 2017 when BTS became the first Korean act to receive a nomination. That year, they also took home their first award for 'Top Social Artist', a category they dominated for several consecutive years. As of December 2024, BTS has 12 BBMA wins.
Jungkook’s 2024 wins are a continuation of his historic solo journey. His album GOLDEN, which consists of pre-released singles like Seven (feat. Latto) and 3D (feat. Jack Harlow), has cemented his position as a global pop icon. In 2023, he became the most nominated and the first K-pop solo artist to win the award.
Meanwhile, despite their ongoing world tour, Stray Kids, performed at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards for the first time. They took their second award for their ninth Korean-language EP, ATE, which was released on July 19, 2024. In 2023, they won the same category for their 2023 EP 5-STAR, another Billboard 200 topping set.
Significantly, ATE also topped the Billboard 200, becoming the group's fifth No. 1 entry on the chart before winning the BBMA laurel. Other Stray Kids albums to top the Billboard 200 are ODDINARY and MAXIDENT, both in 2022, followed by its 2023 album ROCK-STAR.

Unlike many awards based on jury decisions, the Billboard Music Awards rely heavily on measurable metrics. Winners are determined through chart performance on the Billboard charts, powered by data such as album and digital song sales, streaming numbers, radio airplay, and social engagement over a year-long tracking period.
The Billboard Music Awards first took place in 1990, and over the decades, it has evolved into one of the most prestigious platforms for recognizing excellence in music. K-pop's consistent wins over recent years underscore the genre’s influence and growing cultural significance on a global scale.
