Check-in Hanyang episodes 11 & 12 recaps: Seo Mae-hwa's attack and Jun-hwa's move against Lee Eun as secrets unravel
Episode 11 of Check-in Hanyang begins with Deok-soo attending her mother's burial. She pays her respects before retreating to her room, mourning for days without eating or leaving. Her roommates visit to console her, but she refuses to come out, clutching her mother's dress.
Lee Eun eventually arrives, takes the dress from her arms, and throws it into a fire. Deok-soo screams in anguish as the dress burns, grieving again. Lee Eun urges her to stay strong and move forward, reminding her that this is what her mother would have wanted.
The next day in this episode of Check-in Hanyang, Deok-soo meets Seo Mae-hwa and questions her about the night her father, Min-sik, was killed. Mae-hwa reveals that Min-sik has uncovered a plot by Cheon Mak-dong, the owner of Yongcheonru, to assassinate the former king.
Min-sik also discovered the names of Mak-dong's accomplices, which were recorded in a ledger. This ledger was secured in a box that required the golden key broken into two parts-one now with Deok-soo and the other taken by Mae-hwa the night Min-sik was murdered.
Mae-hwa recounts that on the day the king died, Min-sik, anticipating Mak-dong would come for him, entrusted one half of the key to Deok-soo, telling her to flee. When Mae-hwa arrived, Min-sik stabbed himself with Mae-hwa's sword to make it appear that Mae-hwa had killed him.
As expected, Mak-dong confronted Min-sik about the key. Min-sik refused to cooperate, leading to his death at Mak-dong's hands.
Now aware of the truth and knowing Mak-dong has discovered her identity as Jae-on, Min-sik's daughter, Deok-soo meets Mak-dong. She introduces herself as Jae-on and declares her intent to avenge her father's death, blaming Mae-hwa.
Mak-dong, feigning sympathy, hugs her and reminisces about his bond with Min-sik, promising to help her.
Meanwhile in this episode of Check-in Hanyang, Lee Eun visits the palace and learns from the king that the defense minister is blackmailing him with Lee Eun's sword. He is pressuring the King into arranging a marriage between Lee Eun and the minister's niece.
The king also shares that in the former king's assassination defense minister has played a crucial role. However, the king lacks proof, as the only evidence-the ledger-is missing. Lee Eun advises the king to agree to the marriage proposal while promising to secure the key and expose the minister's crimes.
Preparations for the prince's wedding with the minister's niece begin at Yongcheonru. During this time, Mak-dong sends her to a remote location to handle a business issue.
Mak-dong then assigns Deok-soo the task of retrieving the innkeeper's seal from Mae-hwa, as a test of her loyalty and secretly instructs someone to follow her.
Aware of being followed, Deok-soo stages an argument with Mae-hwa but discreetly informs her about planning something the day before the prince's wedding.
Elsewhere in this episode of Check-in Hanyang, Lee Eun visits the defense minister's house. While keeping the minister occupied, his bodyguard searches the premises for evidence. Later, Lee Eun surprises Mak-dong by proposing to hold his proclamation ceremony at Yongcheonru.
That night, Cheon Jun-hwa confides in Go Soo-ra about his intention to propose to Deok-soo. The next day, Jun-hwa takes Deok-soo aside, confesses he knows she is a woman, and declares his feelings.
He gives her a pair of couple bracelets and asks her to consider his proposal. Deok-soo, however, resolves to stay focused on her mission.
In the evening, a masked pre-wedding celebration is held. Deok-soo accompanies the minister's niece, while Lee Eun switches masks and his place with his bodyguard for the event.
While the guests, including the niece and the bodyguard disguised as the prince, are engrossed in the festivities, Lee Eun and Deok-soo separately slip away. Both masked, head to Mak-dong's room without knowledge of the other's presence.
When Mak-dong enters, they hide in the same closet, only realizing each other's presence. When Mak-dong takes his seat Lee Eun, still masked, attacks Mak-dong from behind, holding a knife to his throat and demanding the key.
Mak-dong reluctantly hands it over. At that moment, Deok-soo, also masked, attacks Lee Eun, snatches the key, and escapes. Lee Eun quickly pursues her outside, and during their collision, both their masks fall off. They look at each other in shock as the truth dawns on them. This is where episode 11 of Check-in Hanyang ends.
Episode 12 of Check-in Hanyang begins where the previous episode of Check-in Hanyang left off, with Deok-soo and Lee Eun staring at each other in shock as their masks fall off. However, Mak-dong has sent his men after the attackers, unaware that they are Deok-soo and Lee Eun due to their masks.
Before Deok-soo and Lee Eun can explain themselves, the two are forced to flee from the guards. Along the way, they exchange masks with a couple, drawing the attention of Go Soo-ra, who sees this with surprise.
They eventually hide in a secluded area where couples are sharing intimate moments. With the guards still pursuing them, Deok-soo pulls Lee Eun behind a curtain, lets down her hair to reveal she is a woman, and pretends to kiss him.
When the guards approach, they fail to recognize the pair as the thieves and report back to Mak-dong, leaving Deok-soo and Lee Eun safe for the moment.
Once the guards are gone, they retreat to another quiet spot. Lee Eun confirms his suspicion that Deok-soo is Jae-on, Min-sik’s daughter. Deok-soo demands to know how he knows her real name and asks him to return the golden key he took during their escape.
Lee Eun refuses, explaining that the ledger the key unlocks contains information critical to his family’s survival. Surprised, Deok-soo asks who he really is, but Lee Eun avoids the question and instead asks for her trust and help.
Deok-soo agrees, proposing they find the box together. Their conversation is interrupted when Cheon Jun-hwa arrives, suspicious of their interaction making Deok-soo and Lee Eun make excuses and leave.
Back at the pre-wedding celebration, the defense minister’s niece realizes the bodyguard is pretending to be the prince. She confronts him and declares she will not marry the prince.
Later, Lee Eun visits her in her room, separated by a veil so she cannot see him. He breaks off the engagement, assuring her he will take responsibility and that she is free to go wherever she wishes.
Meanwhile in this episode of Check-in Hanyang, Mak-dong’s guards search Deok-soo and Lee Eun’s quarters and discover Deok-soo’s half of the golden key. She is taken to Mak-dong, who asks about the key.
Deok-soo claims it has been given to her by her father as a keepsake on his deathbed. Mak-dong lies, saying her father has given him the other half of the key, which has now been stolen. Feigning sadness, he blames the theft on Seo Mae-hwa and vows to handle the situation.
The next day in this episode of Check-in Hanyang, Seo Mae-hwa is sent to the outskirts. Sensing danger, she changes her route but is still ambushed by Mak-dong’s men. She fights back fiercely, but the battle leaves her stabbed.
At the palace, the king receives a letter from Lee Eun announcing he will not go through with the marriage. The king deduces that Lee Eun may have found evidence against the defense minister.
The defense minister, learning of the broken engagement, discusses the matter with Mak-dong. Mak-dong advises him to make the same decision he made 12 years ago when he helped assassinate the former king.
Elsewhere in this episode of Check-in Hanyang, Go Soo-ra is threatened by loan sharks demanding repayment of his family’s debts. Mak-dong learns of this and offers Go Soo-ra money in exchange for reports on Jun-hwa and those around him.
Jun-hwa, meanwhile, observes Deok-soo and Lee Eun talking. Later, he confronts Lee Eun, asking if he has feelings for Deok-soo. He reveals that he knows Lee Eun is the prince and urges him to stay away from Deok-soo, arguing that their worlds are too different.
Afterward, Jun-hwa meets with his father Mak-dong, who orders him to distance himself from Lee Eun. He reveals his plan to place the defense minister’s grandson, Prince Seong-yang, on the throne to ensure the family’s control. Shocked, Jun-hwa requests a group of men from his father.
Lee Eun visits the defense minister and warns him against his greed and betrayal of the royal family. He declares that he will become crown prince and later king, not the minister’s grandson, and orders the minister to remain loyal.
Later that evening, Deok-soo waits for Lee Eun at her old house as they have planned. On his way there, Lee Eun is ambushed by the men Jun-hwa sent. He overpowers one of them and demands to know who sent them, but the man escapes.
Meanwhile in this episode of Check-in Hanyang, Deok-soo searches her house and accidentally cuts her finger. When Lee Eun arrives and sees the blood, he frantically searches for her, shouting her name. Deok-soo appears and shows him her injury to calm him down.
However, Lee Eun, visibly shaken, expresses his concern for her. Surprised, Deok-soo asks if he is only worried about the key. Lee Eun denies this, admitting that his concern is for her, not the key. Overcome with emotion, he leans in and kisses her, leaving Deok-soo speechless.
Outside, informed by his men, Jun-hwa arrives at Deok-soo’s house. Entering, he is shocked to find Deok-soo and Lee Eun in the midst of a kiss. On this note, episode 12 of Check-in Hanyang concludes.
Check-in Hanyang airs weekly at 7:50 pm KST and is available for streaming on Viki and Netflix in select regions. Episodes 13 and 14 will be released on February 1 and 2.
