Check-in Hanyang episodes 3 & 4 recaps: Deok-soo’s identity exposed, Lee Eun rescues her from drowning, and a royal conspiracy deepens

Episode 3 of Check-in Hanyang begins with the innkeeper of Yongcheonru discovering that Deok-soo holds role number 30. Shortly after, the entire group is caught playing dice, leading to a scuffle. They are reprimanded by Yongcheonru's heads.

The upper-tier group complains about being unfairly involved. Deok-soo denies the accusation and explains they were playing dice to prove their qualifications, not gambling. Her group supports her claim, and they are let off with additional reprimands.

Seol Mae-hwa, the innkeeper and judge of the situation, becomes intrigued by Deok-soo. She reports to the inn owner about Deok-soo’s fraudulent admit card. The owner, however, tells her not to inform the police. He points out the murder involved a weapon bearing a royal emblem.

News of the murder with the royal sword reaches the palace. The defense minister, who is the queen's father, pressures the king to name the queen’s 9-year-old son as crown prince. He argues the murder and Lee Eun's absence from the palace are valid reasons. The king dismisses the idea and sends a message to Lee Eun, advising him to stay alert.

Later in the episode of Check-in Hanyang, the defense minister meets Yongcheonru’s owner at the palace. The owner mentions visiting the king’s sick eldest son. He also offers to assist the minister in placing the young prince on the throne.

Meanwhile, Deok-soo and her team face their first apprentice test, with expulsion as the consequence of failure. Despite initial struggles, the team wins due to Lee Eun’s skills. The teacher offers extra credit work, which Deok-soo eagerly accepts.

The extra credit work turns out to be peeling onions in the kitchen. The team cries as they peel package after package.

In another development, a picture of Deok-soo in her woman attire spreads across the city and beyond. Seol Mae-hwa visits Deok-soo’s old house, where she lived with her father. It is revealed that Mae-hwa has been maintaining the house with a caretaker and is waiting for someone.

Lee Eun remains curious about Deok-soo, whom he still believes is a man. He tries to peek under Deok-soo’s shirt, searching for the other half of the key. This behavior catches the attention of teammate Cheon Jun-hwa, who asks if Lee Eun likes Deok-soo. Lee Eun is surprised by the question and denies it.

The next challenge involves washing bed sheets. Deok-soo and her team work hard but face sabotage from the upper-tier group. Muddy sheets force the team to wash them at a nearby river. Deok-soo motivates her group to overcome their fear of the river’s strong current.

While washing, Deok-soo slips and falls into the river. The current pulls her away, and she loses consciousness underwater. Lee Eun dives in to rescue her. He performs mouth-to-mouth resuscitation until Deok-soo regains consciousness. Episode 3 of Check-in Hanyang ends here.

At the beginning of episode 4 of Check-in Hanyang, the team carries an unconscious Deok-soo back to the dorm. Lee Eun stays behind to collect the scattered sheets. While gathering them, he finds the key that fell from Deok-soo’s dress during the fall.

At the dorm, Cheon Jun-hwa removes Deok-soo’s wet clothes to prevent hypothermia. He discovers she is a woman and is shocked. Panicked, he quickly re-ties her clothes, covers her with a blanket, and rushes out. When Go Soo-ra tries to check on Deok-soo, panicking Jun-hwa sends him to fetch warm items.

Deok-soo wakes up and notices the key is missing from her chest bandage. Panicking, she runs to the river. Jun-hwa is surprised and tries to stop her but fails. Go Soo-ra assumes she is motivated to pass the exam and take care of her family.

At the riverbank, Deok-soo searches desperately for the key. Lee Eun approaches and shows it to her, questioning her what it is and why is it so important to know how much she knows about the key. She is relieved to see the key and explains it is the only thing her father left her as Lee Eun gives the key to her. Soon, Go Soo-ra joins them, and the three rewash and dry the sheets overnight.

The team passes the test the next day. To celebrate, the passed teams are treated to a feast. Lee Eun and Jun-hwa drink all the alcohol to prevent Deok-soo from drinking. Both pass out. The teacher announces a new challenge: assembling a guest-worthy spread similar to their feast.

Despite initial chaos, Deok-soo and Soo-ra, being sober, start assembling the dishes quickly. They struggle with the setup until Lee Eun helps. Deok-soo reheats the soup at the last moment, earning praise from the hospitality head. The upper-tier group’s leader is irked by their success.

Jun-hwa, now aware Deok-soo is a woman, begins avoiding her. Deok-soo on the other hand, recalling Lee Eun’s mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, also starts dodging him.

The next day is a day off and Jun-hwa and Lee Eun go out in the town, while others work at Yongcheonru for extra credit. Lee Eun with his royal bodyguard, investigates Deok-soo’s background and visits the inn where she has grown up. He has a meal there and talks with the woman who raised her. On his way out, he notices the poster of Deok-soo in her woman’s disguise.

At Yongcheonru, Deok-soo and Soo-ra take dishwashing jobs. However, the upper-tier group leader tricks Deok-soo into serving snacks to an elite guest who dislikes male servers and specifically has instructed the inn to not give him any. The hospitality team, seeing Deok-soo around the room, panics and dresses Deok-soo in women’s clothes.

Meanwhile, in Check-in Hanyang, Soo-ra learns about the situation and rushes to the guest room to get Deok-soo. On his way, he encounters Cheon Jun-hwa and Lee Eun, and informs them of what’s happening.

The three immediately head toward Deok-soo. They arrive just in time to see Deok-soo stepping out of the guest area, dressed in women’s clothes and all three are stunned at the sight.

As Deok-soo hurries away from the area, still in the attire of a woman. She unexpectedly comes face-to-face with innkeeper Seol Mae-hwa, who has come there to greet the guest. Episode 4 of Check-in Hanyang concludes here.

The next chapters of Check-in Hanyang, episodes 5 and 6, are set to air on January 4 and 5 at their usual broadcast time.
