On January 4 and 5, 2025, Channel A aired episodes 5 and 6 of Check-in Hanyang, a historical drama set in the Joseon era. The story follows four interns at Yongcheonru, the kingdom’s top guesthouse.

In Check-in Hanyang, Kim Ji-eun plays Hong Deok-soo, a woman disguised as a man, while Bae In-hyuk portrays Lee Eun, a prince undercover as Lee Eun-ho. Jung Gun-joo and Park Jae-chan play Cheon Jun-hwa, respectively. The former aspires to become the guesthouse's general manager, while the latter seeks to restore his family’s fortunes.

In the previous episodes, 3 and 4 of Check-in Hanyang, Deok-soo’s true identity was at risk of being exposed as Lee Eun discovered a key and Cheon Jun-hwa learned she was a woman. Meanwhile, the team faced challenging tests, with Deok-soo encountering sabotage and dangerous situations. In the final scenes, Deok-soo, dressed as a woman, crosses paths with Seol Mae-hwa.

Check-in Hanyang episodes 5 & 6 recaps: Deok-soo's secret unravels, Lee Eun's mission progresses, and a shocking arrest at Yongcheonru

Episode 5 of Check-in Hanyang begins where episode 4 left off. Deok-soo steps out of the room, dressed as a woman, and comes face-to-face with innkeeper Seol Mae-hwa. Before anyone can speak, a guard of the guest staying in the room approaches.

He questions why "she" is stepping out. The head of hospitality intervenes, calling Deok-soo a "gift" for the guest. He instructs her to return to the room and follow the guest's orders.

Deok-soo’s teammates—Lee Eun, Cheon Jun-hwa, and Go Soo-ra—watch the scene from afar. Hearing the term "gift," they fear the guest is a perverted man and attempt to rescue her. However, the guards stop them, citing that men are not allowed near the guest’s room. Determined, they cross a fence and rush inside.

Inside the room, the guest sits behind a curtain and orders Deok-soo to display her dress and remove her socks. Deok-soo reluctantly complies. As this happens, her teammates burst into the room to “rescue” her.

The guest’s guard, shocked by the intrusion, moves to punish them. Seol Mae-hwa steps in and calms the guard by invoking the defense minister’s name.

The guest emerges from behind the curtain, revealing herself to be a woman—the niece of the defense minister. She is also the sole heir to the minister’s late brother. The minister plans to marry her off to Prince Lee Eun to seize her assets.

The guest slaps Deok-soo for ruining her dress and storms out. Seol Mae-hwa, intrigued by the incident, plots to punish Deok-soo and her team. She arranges their next test, appointing the guest as the judge.

The next day, the test begins with the task of making the guest happy. She repeatedly fails Deok-soo’s team. Finally, she assigns Deok-soo to feed her pet parrot. While feeding the bird, Deok-soo expresses pity for its caged life.

The guest overhears this but doesn’t react. She later orders Deok-soo to fetch fresh fruit for the bird. While Deok-soo is gone, the guest frees the parrot.

Deok-soo returns and is shocked to find the bird missing. The guest tasks her with finding and returning it. Deok-soo and her team search everywhere but fail. Sitting together, they discuss the bird’s plight, which reminds Deok-soo of seeing the guest sitting sadly near the cage earlier. She realizes something.

Meanwhile, the leader of the rival group confronts Deok-soo, blaming her for their difficult task. Upon closer inspection, he recognizes her as the woman from the guest’s room. He mocks her and tries to tear off her clothes, but Cheon Jun-hwa intervenes and stops him.

Later in episode 5 of Check-in Hanyang, Deok-soo challenges the guest to a dice game. If she wins, she asks to take the guest out for a walk. The guest agrees. During the game, Seol Mae-hwa sees Deok-soo playing dice. She recalls a young girl named Hong Jae-on from her past, wondering if Deok-soo is the same person before leaving deep in thought.

Deok-soo wins the game and devises a plan to take the guest out. She asks Lee Eun to organize snacks by the lake and disguises Go Soo-ra as the guest. While Deok-soo distracts the guards, Cheon Jun-hwa escorts the guest to the lake.

Before they arrive, Deok-soo reaches the spot and meets Lee Eun. They sit together, watching fireflies and trying to catch them. Lee Eun notices that she is hungry and gives her a pumpkin candy, knowing she likes it.

They share a quiet, meaningful moment until the guest and Jun-hwa joins them. The four enjoy their time by the water, with the guest feeling free for the first time.

The rival group leader informs Seol Mae-hwa about the outing. Guards are sent to retrieve the guest. Before returning to her room, the guest declares that the outing was her idea. She ensures no one gets punished and praises Deok-soo’s team for understanding her desire for freedom.

The rival leader, enraged, accuses Deok-soo of being a woman unfit to join Yongcheonru. He attacks her but is stopped by Lee Eun and Cheon Jun-hwa. During the scuffle, Deok-soo falls, and her sleeve tears, exposing a scar.

Seol Mae-hwa recognizes this scar as one she saw on Hong Jae-on years ago. She looks at Deok-soo, who stares back at her as Check-in Hanyang episode 5 ends.

Episode 6 of Check-in Hanyang continues with the rival leader insisting that Deok-soo is a woman. No one believes him except Seol Mae-hwa, who quickly changes the topic, stating that the guest needs rest. The leader persists until the owner of Yongcheonru arrives.

The owner apologizes to the guest and instructs her to leave for Prince Lee Eun’s location, as per the defense minister’s orders. Unbeknownst to the minister, Lee Eun is in disguise at Yongcheonru, a fact known only to the king, the owner, and Seol Mae-hwa.

Before leaving, the guest reiterates that the outing was her idea. She ensures that everyone will graduate from the apprenticeship test and soon receive their certificates. That night, the rival group plots to confirm Deok-soo’s identity as a woman.

Go Soo-ra learns Deok-soo’s secret and promises to help. He switches places with her during a bath, tricking the rival group. One member gets caught spying and is expelled.

The next day in episode 6 of Check-in Hanyang, graduates are tasked with observing Yongcheonru’s hospitality and writing reports. Deok-soo shares a room with Lee Eun, while Jun-hwa and Soo-ra share another. The close proximity and couple-themed hospitality services leave Deok-soo and Lee Eun flustered, prompting them to rush outside for fresh air.

That night, Lee Eun visits the palace. He meets his sick cousin, the former king’s son. The cousin mentions the defense minister’s interest in the royal sword. Lee Eun updates the king on his mission and the defense minister’s schemes. The king urges him to succeed quickly, as he plans to declare Lee Eun the crown prince.

Returning to Yongcheonru, Lee Eun finds Deok-soo having a nightmare. In the nightmare, she sees her father being killed by Seol Mae-hwa. She remembers running away with the half key, getting wounded on her arm where the scar now remains.

Waking her up, he comforts her and gives her a cherry blossom branch, claiming it wards off bad dreams. Deok-soo teases him about being superstitious but takes the brunch. Lee Eun then recalls his childhood nightmares about his uncle’s mysterious death and how his cousin gave him a branch from a cherry tree for comfort.

Meanwhile, in episode 6 of Check-in Hanyang, Seol Mae-hwa, now knowing Deok-soo is Hong Jae-on, visits the defense minister, offering help in exchange for a favor. She informs him of Deok-soo’s forged admission card, implicating her in a past murder.

The next day, the ceremony begins with a speech by the owner of Yongcheonru, followed by the owner distributing certificates. While the speech is underway, Lee Eun's bodyguard secretly searches the owner's room and discovers the other half of the key.

At the ceremony, when Deok-soo receives hers, police arrive and arrest her for murder, shocking everyone. With this episode 6 of Check-in Hanyang ends.

The epilogue of Check-in Hanyang shows Deok-soo calming herself outside her room after being flustered by Lee Eun. Seol Mae-hwa approaches her and asks why she wants to work at Yongcheonru. Deok-soo replies that it’s for her parents. Seol Mae-hwa smiles and tells her to rest, hinting that the next day will be significant.

Check-in Hanyang airs every Saturday and Sunday at 7:50 pm KST and streams on Viki and Netflix in select regions.

Episodes 7 and 8 of Check-in Hanyang will air on January 11 and 12, continuing at their regular broadcast time.
