Connection, starring Ji Sung, Jeon Mi-do, Kwon Yul, Kim Kyung-nam, and more, aired the final episodes 13 and 14 on July 5 and 6, respectively, on SBS. The crime thriller drama depicts the story of reputed detective Jang Jae-kyung, played by Ji Sung, and his former high school friend Oh Yoon-jin, portrayed by Jeon Mi-do. Their lives get entangled after 20 years due to the murder case of their friend Park Jun-seo (Yoon Na-moo).

Jang Jae-kyung is a detective at the Narcotics Department of Anhyeon Police Station, who accidentally got addicted to a drug. Oh Yoon-jin is a journalist who works at Anhyeon Economics. In the final episode, Jang Jae-kyung finds out that Keumhyung Group's chairman Won Chang-ho (Moon Sung-geun) is the culprit behind Park Jun-seo's death. Meanwhile, Park Tae-jin (Kwon Yul) aids Won Chang-ho in this process.

Connection ending explained: Ji Sung found out his friend's killer while Jeon Mi-do got insurance money

According to episode 13 of Connection, Won Jong-soo (Kim Kyung-nam) found out that Park Tae-jin was supplying drugs behind his back under the name of Keumhyung Pharmaceutical. Won Jong-soo confronted Park Tae-jin and even tried to drug him so that he could get a taste of his medicine.

Later, using his power as a prosecutor, Park Tae-jin raided the Yeongryung cold storage, where medicines and drugs from Keumhyung Pharmaceutical were stored. Park Tae-jin then went to Won Chang-ho, Won Jong-soo's father, and threatened him to pick between his son and his conglomerate.

Park Tae-jin also asked Won Chang-ho to hand over the Pil-o-dong redevelopment project to him. Won Chang-ho chose Keumhyung Group, the business he built, over his son, while Won Jong-soo was detained by Park Tae-jin on the charges of first-time drug offenses.

Jang Jae-kyung, Oh Yoon-jin, and Heo Ju-song (Jung Soon-won) found out the insurance beneficiary set up by Park Jun-seo led them to Chae Kyung-tae's mother and Noh Gyu-min. 20 years back, Chae Kyung-tae was killed by Won Jong-soo and Noh Gyu-min was at the site and had his uniform name tag, which he later gave to Park Jun-seo.

It was revealed that Park Jun-seo had confessed about Chae Kyung-tae's murder to Jang Jae-kyung during their trip to Park Jun-seo’s hometown. However, he could not muster up the courage to go against Won Jong-soo and was why Jang Jae-kyung was transferred to another school. This was why Park Jun-seo and Jang Jae-kyung drifted apart.

By the end of episode 13 of Connection, Yoo Kyung-hwan (Park Jung-pyo), team leader of the crime department, arrested Jang Jae-kyung for violating the Narcotics Control Act. When Anhyeon Police Station's crime department interrogated Jang Jae-kyung, he agreed he was addicted to drugs.

In the final episode of Connection, CCTV footage of his subordinate Kim Chang-soo (Jeong Jae-kwang) feeding Jang Jae-kyung the drug, which was collected as evidence at the police station, was showcased during the interrogation. Kim Chang-soo took the blame for drugging Jang Jae-kyung although the real culprit behind this was Jeong Sang-eui.

The final episode of Connection showed Oh Yoon-jin finding a strange connection between the Pil-o-dong redevelopment project and Chae Kyung-tae's case. The Pil-o-dong project was taking place where Chae Kyung-tae's old house was located. Oh Yoon-jin revealed this to Jang Jae-kyung since Won Jong-soo was handling the project and he was the one who killed Chae Kyung-tae.

On the other hand, Jung Sang-eui threatened Park Tae-jin, stating that he had evidence against him that he was connected to his and Park Jun-seo's drug supply business. Jung Sang-eui and Jang Jae-kyung confronted Park Tae-jin that Park Jun-seo was wearing his shoes when his friends found his body.

However, according to the police record, his shoes were found on the 9th floor. Park Tae-jin ended up confessing that he killed Park Jun-seo as he wanted to reveal their business to the public, which would negatively affect him.

He started to badmouth Park Jun-seo, trying to strike a deal with Jang Jae-kyung but Jung Sang-eui shot him using Jang Jae-kyung’s gun as he could not control himself. Jung Sang-eui was arrested for Park Tae-jin's murder and Oh Chi-hyeon (Cha Yeop) for Jeong Yun-ho's murder (Lee Kang-wook).

Meanwhile, Jang Jae-kyung found Won Chang-ho's secretary’s DNA in Park Jun-seo’s nails. Won Chang-ho's secretary's confession note for Park Jun-seo's murder seemed fishy to Jang Jae-kyung and he was convinced that the real culprit behind this case was Won Chang-ho.

The Keumhyung Group Chairman used Park Tae-jin’s strategy. The plan was to use anesthesia on Park Jun-seo and push him from the construction site, which would seem like a suicide. Won Chang-ho was arrested for his crimes and Jang Jae-kyung successfully brought justice to his friend Park Jun-seo.

Meanwhile, Oh Yoon-jin, Heo Ju-song, and Jang Jae-kyung received 5 billion KRW through the insurance set up by Park Jun-seo. Oh Yoon-jin decided to share some of the insurance money with Park Jun-seo’s wife, Choi Ji-yeon (Jung Yoo-min).

Furthermore, they found the eight codes of the secret account that collected the money Park Tae-jin and Park Jun-seo made through their business. Jung Sang-eui revealed the first four codes set by Park Tae-jin, which was Choi Ji-yeon's birth date.

With Heo Ju-song's sharp memory, the last four codes were figured out to be the friendship day celebrated by Park Jun-seo. Connection ended with the three celebrating as they discovered the amount of money the account had.

Possibilities of Connection season 2 explored

On July 9, in an interview with Xports News, Director Kim Moon-kyo shared his thoughts on the second season of the crime thriller. He stated:

"I've joked with the actors and staff about season 2 several times, but I think we should end this story here."

He revealed the reason behind the ending of the story with no plans of a second season, stating that too many of the characters have passed away in the series. He added:

"It's hard for me to let these people go, but because the writer killed off too many friends, it seems like it will be difficult for 'Connection' to have a second season."

All episodes of Connection, starring Ji Sung and Jeon Mi-do, are available on the OTT platform Wavve and Coupang Play.
