On December 10, 2024, a viral post alleged that Luigi Mangione, using the handle @PepMangione on X, expressed support for the K-pop group NewJeans with the phrase "NEWJEANS NEVER DIE." The claim was supported by screenshots of a Spotify playlist, reportedly created by Mangione.

The alleged playlist featured several songs like Hype Boy and Super Shy from the group’s discography. For those who don't know, Luigi Mangione is the prime suspect in the recent murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

However, it was confirmed the post was fabricated, with inconsistencies such as timestamps predating the group's adoption of the slogan. All claims suggesting Luigi showed support for the group have been debunked.

One key reason for debunking the claim was that the screenshot indicated the post's date as May 24, when the posted phrase was not in use. Additionally, similar edits appeared on the social media pages of other artists, including BLACKPINK and Ariana Grande.

More about NewJeans dispute with ADOR

The phrase “NEWJEANS NEVER DIE” has gained widespread recognition in the wake of the group's highly publicized dispute with their label, ADOR. In November 2024, the five-member group announced their decision to terminate contracts with ADOR, citing breaches of trust and professional mistreatment.

As per the reports published by Sports Chosun on November 29, during a press conference, the group detailed the challenges they faced under the label. These included unresolved grievances and dissatisfaction with management practices. Despite the ongoing legal battle, the group assured fans of their unity, declaring their intent to keep up the spirit of the group, even if restricted from using their original name.

The conflict began earlier this year, as tensions between the quintet and ADOR became increasingly evident. Public statements from the group indicated that efforts to address their concerns were met with insufficient responses.

The reports published by MHN Sports on November 29 stated that in contrast to the group's press conference, ADOR claimed that their contracts remained valid. They further emphasized a willingness to negotiate with the quintet. Despite this, NewJeans decided to take an independent path, solidifying their connection with fans through their powerful message, “NewJeans will never die.”

ADOR rejected the allegations, firmly asserting that the contracts remain valid. They also expressed disappointment over the group's public statement, considering it both premature and a violation of professional conduct. The agency reiterated its commitment to supporting NewJeans and expressed openness to engaging in discussions to resolve the matter. The statement read:

"We regret that we planned and held a press conference to terminate our exclusive contract without sufficient review and even before receiving a response to the certified mail. The exclusive contract between Adore and the members of New Jeans is still valid. Therefore, we ask that you continue to work with Adore in the future as you have done so far."

About Luigi Mangione

Meanwhile, Luigi Mangione’s alleged involvement in the murder case of Brian Thompson continues to dominate headlines. The 26-year-old app developer and former valedictorian was arrested in Pennsylvania while in possession of a ghost gun and an alleged manifesto outlining his grievances against corporate entities.

Authorities believe his actions may have been fueled by frustrations with corporate practices, shedding light on a potential motive.

While NewJeans has stressed its desire to move forward independently, ADOR stands by its position, ensuring the dispute remains a topic of public attention. Fans are eagerly awaiting a resolution from both sides.
