DNA Lover episode 13 recap: Love confessions amidst Father Andrea's past revelations and the appearance of another grasstree
Episode 13 of DNA Lover opens with Sim Yeon-woo waking up from a dream. In it, he leaves Han So-jin at a hotel. After waking up, he wonders if he will regret that decision.
The scene then shifts to So-jin and Kang-hoon in front of his father’s restaurant. So-jin insists on staying with him after his injury. She admits she can't imagine life without him. Kang-hoon hugs her and promises that it will never happen.
While hugging him, So-jin finally recognizes Kang-hoon’s scent and his promise. She feels she has truly found her DNA lover. She takes off the bracelets she shared with Yeon-woo. Then, she writes Kang-hoon’s name on her DNA lover board.
Meanwhile, a Father of the church is tending to a grasstree in a greenhouse. The plant was found at several arson scenes. He remembers the fire that killed Yeon-woo’s father and another fire at the apartment of Yeon-woo’s father’s mistress.
Kang-hoon later visits So-jin’s house to drop off food his father prepared. Since So-jin is not home, A-ri invites him in for tea. As Kang-hoon waits, he notices So-jin’s DNA lover board. He is thrilled to see his name on it. A-ri asks if he has confessed his feelings. Kang-hoon says he won’t until So-jin is fully over Yeon-woo.
Then in this episode of DNA Lover Mi-eun takes Yeon-woo out to cheer him up. They visit a dumpling place that reminds Yeon-woo of So-jin. Mi-eun admits she feels lonely coming home to an empty house. She jokingly offers to move in with Yeon-woo. He brushes it off as a joke.
Kang-hoon later invites So-jin to a romantic event. While the decorations enchant her, it also reminds her of Yeon-woo. But she continues to enjoy her time with Kang-hoon. So-jin asks him about his first love.
He confesses it was someone who cried beautifully. He then recalls the time when So-jin cried beside him after his mother’s death, a memory that has stuck with him. He then asks if she is still hurting over Yeon-woo.
So-jin admits she sees Yeon-woo as someone who would run when things get tough. And now, she is ready to forget him. Despite this, memories of Yeon-woo continue to trouble her.
Elsewhere in episode 13 of DNA Lover, Yeon-woo learns about Tree Orphanage, which his father supported for years. He visits and learns that his father had a special bond with a boy who now has become Father Andrea. Yeon-woo realizes this boy is the son of his father’s mistress. He had once accused them of tearing his family apart.
Yeon-woo later confronts Andrea with a half-burnt photograph recovered from the greenhouse. Though hesitant, Andrea confirms the boy in the photo is him but insists he has let go of the past since becoming a priest.
The next day in DNA Lover, Yeon-woo and So-jin awkwardly meet at a volunteer event they had signed up for as a couple. They try to avoid each other but are soon left alone. Isolated from the group, they work in uneasy silence until So-jin disturbs a wasp nest.
Yeon-woo quickly rushes to her aid, and they run from the wasps, holding hands. Despite their efforts, a wasp stings So-jin on the forehead.
Yeon-woo takes her to the hospital. So-jin hesitates at first but eventually lets him help. However, when Kang-hoon calls her in the hospital, Yeon-woo is hurt.
For skipping out on the event, Yeon-woo and So-jin are given dishwashing duty. While working together, Yeon-woo asks how she feels about finding her DNA lover. So-jin replies that she’s happy and leaves the conversation.
Back in Seoul, Kang-hoon waits for So-jin at the bus stop. He is worried about her and checks on her well-being. Meanwhile in this episode of DNA Lover, So-jin’s mother is diagnosed with stage two lung cancer. She thinks about calling her daughters but decides against it.
Kang-hoon, who has been knitting a red scarf for So-jin, is embarrassed when his father jokes about it. So-jin, initially happy with how Kang-hoon treats her, begins to question if her feelings for him are more brotherly than romantic.
Later, Kang-hoon drops So-jin home while Father Andrea watches from afar. Andrea then sends So-jin a grasstree, pretending it is from Kang-hoon.
Elsewhere, Jung Tam confides in Yeon-woo about his struggle with sterility. His girlfriend, Song Mi, is unaware of his condition and wants to have kids. Yeon-woo advises him to be honest with her but also do everything to keep her.
Mi-eun brings Yeon-woo dinner and once again suggests living together. This time, Yeon-woo declines. Mi-eun tells him to confess his feelings to So-jin one last time, promising to wait for him if things don’t work out.
So-jin finds the grass plant and believes it’s a gift from Kang-hoon. That same night, Yeon-woo calls her, asking to meet. He confesses his feelings and asks for another chance. So-jin declines. She explains that the old version of herself would have given him a chance, but not anymore.
Yeon-woo, heartbroken, asks if she truly loves Kang-hoon. So-jin admits she doesn’t love him romantically. However, she believes her feelings for him might be what love is supposed to feel like. Before Yeon-woo can respond, Kang-hoon arrives and takes So-jin inside.
Later, Kang-hoon confesses his love to So-jin, offering her a symbolic gift—a fire hose from his first rescue scene. He promises to cherish her and never make her cry. As he leans in to kiss her, the grasstree, behind So-jin tumbles to the ground. The broken planter of it reveals a mysterious metal bar and a packet of liquid hidden inside.
In the final scene, Andrea is seen with bloodshot eyes, seemingly putting together a dark plan. Episode 13 of DNA Lover ends here.
