The fifth episode of the romantic comedy series DNA Lover, starring Jung In-sun, Choi Si-won, Lee Tae-hwan, and Jung Yoo-jin, premiered on TV Chosun at 9:10 pm (KST) on August 31, 2024.
DNA Lover chronicles the journey of a genetic researcher who embarks on a mission to identify a genetically compatible partner, having experienced a series of unsuccessful relationships due to infidelity.
In the previous episode, Yeon-woo rescues So-jin from her stalker and then leans in to kiss her. This episode delves into the incidents after that kiss and So-jin trying to have a telepathic connection with Yeon-woo, her DNA lover.
Jung In-sun portrays the character of Han So-jin, a researcher at the Beneficial Gene Center who is dedicated to discovering the ideal 'genetic match' she refers to as DNA Lover. Choi Si-won plays the role of Shim Yeon-woo, a highly skilled obstetrician and gynecologist at Shim Hospital. He is the son of the hospital president for whom he works.

DNA Lover episode 5 recap
The fifth episode of DNA Lover begins with Shim Yeon-woo leaning towards Han So-jin to kiss her. At that time Kang-hoon comes there and watches the two. On the other hand, Han So-jin's real stalker takes a picture of her and Yeon-woo kissing and leaves.
However, the kiss does not happen. As Yeon-woo leans in for the kiss, something comes to Han So-jin's mind and she headbutts him. He falls down crying in pain. When consoling him she asks what he is trying to do to her and if it is some kind of test. He says he was just curious and learned that her forehead is strong.
Kang-hoon takes her home and asks Yeon-woo to wait for him in his father's restaurant. Taking So-jin home he asks her not to fall for anyone who is nice to her.
Back in the restaurant in this episode, Kang-hoon tells Yeon-woo that So-jin is not strong, and seeing how she becomes like, he doesn't want So-jin to get hurt. He asks Yeon-woo not to be interested in So-jin.
Yeon-woo in response asks him if he likes So-jin. Kang-hoon tells him she is like a family to him. So Yeon-woo tells him that family should not come between a man and a woman.
So-jin goes home and remembers the almost kiss. Though she thinks it's his cheater gene, she can't stop thinking about that raising her heartbeat. Even in the office she keeps thinking about it and tells A-ri about that.
Jang Mi-eun meanwhile in the episode, does a live show promoting her book about relationships and love. After the live, she listens to the organizers talk about her book and calls her polyamorous lifestyle a cheater and like a test of how many boyfriends she can have.
Mi-eun listens to this as she comes back to get her pen and tells the organizers she doesn't like doing tests with her life. The next day in episode five, Yeon-woo thinks about So-jin. He takes the excuse of a client's genetic test and goes to the genetic center.
When he reaches the center Han So-jin is getting yelled at by a celebrity weather forecaster who is getting married to a rich family. She is mad at Han So-jin because her report says she has limited chances of getting pregnant. She tells So-jin to make the report acceptable, but So-jin refuses. She then launches at So-jin. Yeon-woo creates a distraction and rescues So-jin.
They go to a karaoke place. As Yeon-woo starts singing, So-jin wonders how many women he has seduced with that voice. Despite her initial skepticism, she finds herself enjoying it. Before long, she’s singing too, even though she had insisted she was tone-deaf. The two workers (played by Leeteuk and Shin Dong) of this karaoke place also join Yeon-woo singing.
Yeon-woo takes her back to her home. On the way, he tells her to continue her test. Elated Han So-jin jumps at his words. When they are talking, A-ri comes at them running as she remembers So-jin saying that Yeon-woo tried to kiss her and his cheater gene. She asks So-jin if she is hungry and gets sushi. So-jin asks Yeon-woo to tag along to A-ri's dismay.
At the restaurant, Yeon-woo sits separately as So-jin asks A-ri about the father at the church where A-ri is volunteering. A-ri talks about the Father of the church's late mother who liked growing flowers in a greenhouse and passed away in a fire. A-ri says the Father must have taken after her as he smells like flowers too.
This reminds Yeon-woo of his father leaving her mother for a woman who had a child of his age and loved growing flowers in a greenhouse too.
The next morning in this episode, Yeon-woo picks up flowers before going to the genetic center to meet So-jin who has a pollen allergy. However, So-jin has gone for a special lecture at her school.
In the lecture, she talks about how her father being a genetic researcher who helped a lot of people to find their family, inspired her to become a genetic researcher as well. So she became a genetic researcher to help people find the people who are important to them. Yeon-woo comes to her school to meet her with the flowers.
He gives her flowers and she sneezes on him. She tells him that her allergy has been acting up since morning even though there have been no flowers. Yeon-woo asks her if this is telepathy.
So-jin takes him to her old club room. She talks about how she used to watch stars from the club room's window. The star she later finds out to be Lo, a satellite of Jupiter.
As it is closest to Jupiter it is called the Star of Hell because Jupiter is full of storm and the tidal forces made Lo a mass of magma. However, the other side's temperature is minus and made of ice. The fire and ice being together makes it hell.
So-jin goes on to say that even then if she was Lo, she wouldn't want to separate from Jupiter as Lo would be lonely in space without Jupiter. Yeon-woo agrees to her saying Jupiter would've wanted that too.
In the room, So-jin discovers a time capsule containing tickets from a movie she attended with a senior who was cheating on her. Yeon-woo asks her how many times she has been rejected.
He then finds an MP3 in the capsule. So-jin says she has put just one song in it to listen with her destined partner and she hasn't listened to it with any man. Yeon-woo asks her if they should listen to it together. So-jin being flustered can't reply to him. He asks her if she wants to eat something and together at the same time, both say Mandu soup. Yeon-woo calls it telepathy.
Next in the episode, Jung-tam is eating lunch alone and hoping to run into Song-mi when Kang-hoon with his team who have been in a department award ceremony walk up to him. Kang-hoon asks why he is eating alone and gets to know that Yeon-woo has gone to meet So-jin. Song-mi meanwhile walks in and greets Jung-tam who stammers talking to her.
Yeon-woo and So-jin go to have Mandu soup. While eating she asks him why was he there that night when she had been chased. He makes an excuse of going to Kang-hoon's father's restaurant.
She asks him further if he has had some sort of feeling that night about her being in trouble. Along with symptoms of anxiety and a racing heart that happened in the previous episode. He has had all of them but he denies it.
So-jin asks if he has been in the flower shop around noon, which was the time her allergy started acting up. As he replies with maybe, she says it's not a coincidence but telepathy. Yeon-woo denies but So-jin persists it being telepathy.
In the next scene of the episode, at the book sign event, Mi-eun's fan goes for her autograph with an inappropriate picture in the book. Though she ignores it he persists her in asking her to have a polyamorous relationship with him. She refuses but this man starts creating a scene until the security escorts him out, leaving her shaking.
This episode then takes to Kang-hoon's father's restaurant, where So-jin tells Kang-hoon about the telepathy. He refuses to believe it and asks her if the man is Yeon-woo.
When she doesn't reply he tells her that the man in the world that can never be So-jin's match is Yeon-woo. She can never date her. Saying this he leaves. A-ri who is there as well agrees with him.
Outside Kang-hoon runs into Mi-eun who has been feeding a cat. Upon Kang-hoon asking, she says she has come to give him a gift and gives him a copy of her book. He asks her if she has got a call from the police about a man who has been lurking outside her place. She tells him that she has had a few perverts trying to break in but it's fine as she doesn't go to her writing studio every day.
Kang-hoon further asks if something has happened today. Mi-eun remembers the signing event incident. Kang-hoon asks for her number, in case the guy comes back to bother her again. He asks how Yeon-woo feels about this attack and Mi-eun replies that they don't have that kind of relationship.
She further tells him that he is the 'Friday guy' from the guys she meets on the different days of the week. Listening to this, Kang-hoon gives her her book back saying he will not read the dating advice she has written. She in return asks if he thinks a monogamous relationship is the only way.
He replies that he doesn't understand people like her who easily meet and break up with people and asks her not to break people's hearts who are not like that but just stick to people who are like her.
Then in the episode, working in home So-ji remembers Kang-hoon's words. She also remembers Yeon-woo refusing the idea of telepathy.
Kang-hoon is bothered by So-jin falling for Yeon-woo and he discusses it with his colleague Song-mi at work. She tells him girls can't help but always fall for such bad guys. This makes Kang-hoon wonder what he can do.
In a later scene of this episode, Jung-tam goes to So-jin to get a genetic report of his client. She tells him about her research about telepathy. He asks about her and Yeon-woo going to the karaoke and is surprised to learn about Yeon-woo singing and dancing in front of her. He says this means So-jin and Yeon-woo are dating but So-jin tells him they are just research partners.
Later in the episode, So-jin sneezes and instantly sees Yeon-woo in a flower shop near her. She calls him to test if their telepathy works and tells him to meet at either Mount Nam or Han River. She tells him to tell the exact location through telepathy as DNA lovers should be able to guess correctly.
Yeon-woo realizes So-jin brings up DNA at a crucial moment, so he agrees to meet with her around 8 whether at a bench near Han River looking at Jamsu Bridge or the tower of Mount Nam, and goes out of the shop.
She jumps in a cab and goes to Han River, however, she finds Kang-hoon there. Yeon-woo who is at Mount Nam, finds Mi-eun.
The last scene of this episode of DNA Lover reveals Yeon-woo running into So-jin's friend at the school. He had asked her about So-jin's favorite dish and had learned about Mandu soup.
He then later took the name of Mandu soup along with So-jin calling it telepathy. She excitedly went out of that club room to go to the Mandu soup shop. The episode ends with Yeon-woo putting her MP3 player in his pocket before walking out behind her.
