On September 14, 2024, at 9:10 pm KST, TV Chosun aired the ninth episode of the romantic comedy series DNA Lover. This charming drama features Jung In-sun, Choi Si-won, Lee Tae-hwan, and Jung Yoo-jin in key roles.
The story revolves around Han So-jin, a genetic researcher who is determined to find her "DNA Lover"—the perfect genetic match—after a string of failed relationships marred by infidelity.
Jung In-sun takes on the role of Han So-jin, a dedicated researcher at the Beneficial Gene Center, passionately committed to finding her ideal partner based on genetic compatibility. Choi Si-won plays Shim Yeon-woo, a talented obstetrician and gynecologist working at his family’s hospital, led by his father.

DNA Lover episode 9 recap: So-jin is uncomfortable with Yeon-woo's popularity
Episode 9 of DNA Lover begins with Han So-jin and Sim Yeon-woo discussing what So-jin wants to do after getting discharged from the hospital.
Before she gets discharged, Yeon-woo gives her a pair of shoes as a gift and she gives him a bracelet shaped like DNA, just like her. Yeon-woo isn't too pleased with the design of the bracelet but doesn't say anything to her and lets her put it on him.
Kang-hoon, on the other hand, is disappointed seeing Yeon-woo and So-jin kiss and how close they are. He remembers how So-jin was after her last heartbreak and fears her getting heartbroken again because of Yeon-woo's dating pattern.
That night, So-Jin calls Yeon-woo to talk to him. After he asks if she has taken her medicines, she asks him to participate in the event of taking out invasive pants around the Sim hospital, with her. Yeon-woo agrees and tells her that the emotions he feels towards her are unfamiliar to him, but he likes feeling them. He tells her that he wants to know her gradually, which So-jin also wants.
She continues to tell him about her father and how she regrets never being able to buy her father the hiking shoes she wanted. However, Yeon-woo falls asleep before hearing it, on call.
The next day, to make up for his falling asleep, he makes lunch and brings it to her office to have together. He also buys a pair of hiking shoes for her father. He also invites So-jin to cook her favorite dish crab porridge. However, she remembers that it was the day every year they went to visit Kang-heon's mother's grave on her death anniversary. She cancels the plan with Yeon-woo and runs to that.
Yeon-woo's friend on the other hand is getting married and pesters him to join them to their wedding photo shoot as one of their friends. Now Yeon-woo after having his plan canceled, joins them where Mi-eun is there. They go to a Hanok Village to take pictures. In the same place, Kang-hoon and his father go with So-jin.
They run into Yeon-woo and his gang. So-jin is surprised to see him and so is he. He asks her if she canceled their plan to be with Kang-hoon. Kang-hoon tells him about the occasion. Yeon-woo, too, tells her about the wedding photo shoot and that as she canceled the plan, he came here instead.
So-jin is still, however, disturbed seeing Yeon-woo and Mi-eun wearing almost matching hanbok like a couple. She is bothered by their closeness but chooses not to say anything to him. She talks to Kang-hoon about it. However, she tells him that even after feeling like this she doesn't hate him maybe because he is her DNA lover.
On the other hand, in DNA Lover, Yeon-woo shares with Mi-eun about his feeling irritated. She points out the plausible reason for the close friendship between Kang-hoon and So-jin, which is unique.
She tells Yeon-woo to clear his position as her boyfriend and should be protective about it. She also says that So-jin should be feeling like that as the friendship between Yeon-woo and Mi-eun is also close and not typical.
The next morning in this episode of DNA Lover, Kang-hoon runs into Mi-eun at the street side food stall. She forcefully feeds him a piece of meat liver which he didn't want. She tells him that if he doesn't broaden his horizon, he will feel burdened, and to get rid of that burden, she tells him to confess.
Meanwhile, So-jin is jealous of every woman around Yeon-woo and feels like all of them have eyes for him. She dislikes that her 'DNA lover' is famous among women.
Mi-eun after much contemplation, goes to So-jin's lab to get a genetical analysis. Mi-eun notices So-jin wearing the shoes Yeon-woo has brought her and tells her that she knows because it is from Yeon-woo's favorite brand. In the conversation, So-jin notices Mi-eun wearing a similar shoe in a different color.
Mi-eun asks So-jin why she likes Yeon-woo and So-jin replies that more than liking him, he is someone who is genetically destined to be with her. Mi-eun questions that and calls the experiment interesting.
She advises her that if So-jin likes someone, she should not control that person specifically when the person is Yeon-woo.
So-ji is disturbed after this conversation and decides to improve his cheating DNA even if she can not remodel it. As planned, she starts experimenting. She goes to watch a movie with Yeon-woo and gives the spray she has created to suppress his cheating gene.
Yeon-woo agrees to apply the spray in exchange for her going on an abroad trip with him. Homebody So-jin doesn't like that idea but agrees with it.
In the next scene of DNA Lover, A-ri goes to the church and confesses to the priest about her not doing anything to help her friend who was being bullied in school and the friend died. She talks about how this trauma is still haunting her. Notably, A-ri has developed romantic feelings for the priest.
After that in DNA Lover's ninth episode, Yeon-woo's mother is happy to see his father coming back home. However, he has only come home to pack his things and move out. He tells her that she will get the divorce paper the next day and asks her to sign it.
She begs him to not leave. However, he believes that she is happy about his mistress and his unborn child's death and accuses her of it before he leaves.
Yeon-woo is dropping So-jin home when he gets a call from his mother to inform him about her getting a divorce from his father. He says it is good for her now that she will get to enjoy her life. So-jin overhears the call and asks about it, but Yeon-woo tells her nothing and bids her goodbye.
He goes to Kang-hoon's father's restaurant and discusses the matter with Kang-hoon. He tells him that seeing his parents he never believed in something like destiny. However being with someone who believes in it, he wants to believe in his destiny too and wants to create her destiny for her. He says he is doing something he has never done in his life.
In the upcoming ninth episode of the television series DNA Lover, Mi-eun visits Yeon-woo's residence to deliver abalone and engage in conversation. Simultaneously, Kang-hoon prepares abalone for So-jin at the request of his father. So-jin proposes extending an invitation to Yeon-woo to join them for the meal.
She video calls him, and upon his answering, she notices the presence of Mi-eun. Consequently, she refrains from extending the invitation to him. When he asks about the possibility of having lunch together, she declines, making an excuse. This exchange captures the attention of Kang-hoon and A-ri, who are present in the house.
A-ri is curious as to why Mi-eun was at Yeon-woo's residence early this morning and suspects that Mi-eun spent the night there. She shares this information with So-jin. Despite her concerns, So-jin attempts to dismiss the matter, expressing trust in Yeon-woo. Subsequently, So-jin departs for a jog along the Hangang River.
On the other hand, Yeon-woo, understanding what So-jin is feeling, runs out of his house, asking Mi-eun to lock it before she leaves.
Meanwhile, it starts raining, and Kang-hoon heads towards So-jin with two umbrellas. He calls So-jin on his way, but wanting to be alone, she cuts the call.
Yeon-woo, concerned about his inability to reach So-jin, diligently searches for her until he finally locates her. So-jin, feeling slightly awkward upon seeing him, attempts to maintain a casual demeanor. However, Yeon-woo encourages her to ask questions, assuring her that he will provide every explanation to her.
She tells him that she wishes that her DNA lover to be unattractive, not well-mannered, poor, not a doctor, and unpopular among women. In response, Yeon-woo inquires as to how she is unaware of the extent of his affection for her and proceeds to embrace her.
Kang-hoon finally locates So-jin and sees her embracing Yeon-woo before they leave together. He reflects on his interactions with So-jin and acknowledges that he has consistently reached her late. He contemplates whether expressing his feelings earlier could have altered the situation.
