Doubt episode 5 recap: Tae-su goes through session recordings of Ji-su

Episode five of Doubt started from where the last scene of the previous episode left. Jang Ha-bin and Choi Yeong-min were standing in the forest when Yeong-min showed Ha-bin the video of her mother burying the dead body of her best friend Su-hyeon. This completely shocked Ha-bin, and she denied accepting it at once.

She instead questioned Yeong-min why she did that and attacked him. Yeong-min, in retaliation, tried to strangle her when suddenly an unknown man wearing a helmet came and saved Ha-bin.

Yeong-min somehow managed to escape with the bag full of money that Ha-bin brought with her. The unknown man followed Yeong-min but lost him. Yeong-min then reached out to Sung-hee and told her that he showed that video to Ha-bin.

He went to tell her about the attacker and told her that, as per his gut feeling, he seemed familiar, even though he failed to see the attacker’s face. Sung-hee seemed scared as she thought he recognized the attacker. In the next scene, Park Joon-tae is shown, and it appears that he attacked Yeong-min in the forest.

On the other side, Ha-bin sent her mother, Ji-su’s video to Tae-su and called him to ask if she really did that. Tae-su was shocked to see the video, and he also heard Choi Yeong-min’s voice in it. Therefore, Tae-su was certain that he had secretly recorded the video.

Tae-su asked for Ha-bin’s location, but she refused to tell. She hung up the call. Tae-su then took the other phone of Ji-su, which he found in Ha-bin’s room, to retrieve the information from it. On retrieving the information, his colleague informed him that there was a GPS tracker app installed on the phone.

From the tracker app, Tae-su found Ha-bin’s location as she carried Ji-su’s phone with her. Tae-su followed her and reached a neuropsychiatric clinic. Although he missed Ha-bin, he met the doctor at the clinic, who told him about Ji-su’s mental illness. The doctor emphasized that Tae-su must listen to Ji-su’s recorded sessions.

While he met the doctor, Ha-bin came out and saw Tae-su’s car outside the clinic. She realized that her father followed her. Therefore, she turned her phone off and left in a taxi. She soon noticed that the man who earlier saved her in the forest followed her. She tricked the man and confronted him. When she asked who he was, he quickly escaped.

Subsequently, Tae-su went home and began listening to Ji-su’s recorded sessions. This scene follows a flashback, in which Ji-su was expressing her happiness in front of her doctor. She said that she was happy to see her daughter, Ha-bin, becoming normal like others as she became friends with Lee Su-hyeon.

Ji-su celebrated Ha-bin’s birthday with her friend Su-hyeon. While Su-hyeon gave the keychain as a present to Ha-bin, Ji-su gave Su-hyeon a cell phone. It appeared that Ha-bin and Su-hyeon were very good friends.

Later, in another flashback scene, Ji-su seemed tense as Ha-bin wasn’t receiving her calls. Ji-su questioned Ha-bin when she returned home after some time, but Ha-bin talked rudely to her mother, telling her to stay away from her matters.

Seeing this, Ji-su followed Ha-bin another day, and she saw her giving strangers money. Ji-su suddenly received a call from Su-hyeon while she followed Ha-bin.

Ji-su met Su-hyeon. When Ji-su asked her about what happened to Ha-bin these days, she replied that Ha-bin was desperately searching for her. Su-hyeon went on to say that she was intentionally ignoring Ha-bin. Su-hyeon seemed scared while talking about Ha-bin. She told Ji-su that there was something wrong with her that she couldn’t explain. Ji-su seemed to be aware of Ha-bin’s problem.

Following this, Ji-su ordered Ha-bin to stop looking for Su-hyeon and to leave her alone. Ha-bin refused to stop. She instead questioned her mother if she really trusted her. Ha-bin asked Ji-su if she also doubted her like Tae-su for what happened to Ha-jun.

Ji-su remained silent, and Ha-bin went to her room. Ha-bin’s violent nature came into play as she tore down the pages of the book and threw everything here and there in her room.

After skipping some of her psychiatric sessions, Ji-su visited her doctor. When the doctor asked her why she looked so upset and depressed, she replied that her daughter killed a dog (referring to Su-hyeon). She further stated that she buried that dog. Ji-su expressed her fear that Ha-bin might repeat this behavior in the future.

In the present, Tae-su was going through Ji-su's session recordings. He once again saw the video and suspected Yeong-min as he recorded the video.

Meanwhile, police were continuously looking for Park Joon-tae. Ha-bin’s educator Joon-tae has been off the radar since the previous episode. Police inquired in the school, but he was on leave. Officer Eo-jin, Tae-su’s assistant, who has been suspicious about Tae-su and his daughter’s involvement in the murder mysteries, also inquired about her in school. Ha-bin was also absent from school.

Police then checked the CCTV footage of Joon-tae’s parking spot. He was seen leaving for someplace wearing an all-black outfit and rain boots. When Tae-su saw the CCTV footage, he suggested they search for Joon-tae in fishing spots around his house.

Sung-hee went to meet Joon-tae in the meantime, but she was unaware that a member of Yeong-min's gang was following her. Joon-tae felt guilty about something, and he was willing to surrender to the police. Soon Sung-hee left.

Yeong-min, who saw their pictures together, angrily rushed to Joon-tae’s location. While he was trying to kill Joon-tae, police suddenly arrived. Joon-tae was saved but Yeong-min escaped.

Tae-su's car struck him as he was attempting to flee into the forest close to the fishing spot. Yeong-min was beaten by Tae-su while being questioned. He asked who killed Su-hyeon. Yeong-min said he extorted Ji-su for a secret video he captured, not the murder.

Tae-su blamed him and threatened to kill Yeong-min after solving the murder case. He left him and advised him not to be caught by police because his daughter was involved.

The police managed to capture Joon-tae. On interrogation, Joon-tae said that he knew Yeong-min due to some personal matters, and he refused to reveal it. Suddenly, Tae-su entered the interrogation room and began questioning Joon-tae about how he knew Yeong-min, but other fellow officers left Joon-tae and asked Tae-su to get some rest.

While Joon-tae was leaving, Officer Eo-jin asked him about Ha-bin and Su-hyeon’s relationship. He said that they were best friends, and earlier he kept this a secret as he didn’t want to involve Ha-bin in the investigation as she already lost her mother last year.

Towards the end of the Doubt episode, Tae-su returned home, and he was thinking of Ji-su. During one of her sessions, she also revealed that she couldn’t discuss Ha-bin with Tae-su as he already thought wrong about her. She also revealed that she wasn’t able to handle it and therefore she divorced Tae-su.

While Tae-su was at home, Ha-bin arrived. Tae-su asked her if she did everything to take revenge on Yeong-min and Song Min-a. He continued saying that from now on he would trust Ha-bin and she could share everything with him. Ha-bin refused and said that she didn’t trust him. She instead asked her father why he met Ji-su on the day she died.

In the last scene, Tae-su thought about the day Ji-su died. He met her and he told her to die if she was willing to die so badly, and episode 5 of Doubt concluded here.
