Face me episode 3 & 4 recap: Jeong-woo saved from masked man, trauma resurfaces, Hee-young’s fight for justice
The episode 3 of Face Me began with Cha Jeong-woo (Lee Min-Ki) driving, unaware being followed by a masked man in another car. Jeong-woo stopped at a convenience store, and as he returned to his vehicle, the masked man accelerated toward him. Jeong-woo froze, bracing for impact, but Lee Min-hyung (Han Ji-Hyun) arrived just in time, swerving her car between them and forcing the other car to turn away, saving Jeong-woo.
This incident triggered Jeong-woo’s memories of a past accident, leaving him visibly shaken. Min-hyung noticed his state and quickly checked on him. When Jeong-woo questioned her, she explained that she was on her way to the hospital to see him, saw him leaving, and noticed the masked man following him. She had her team trace the car’s license plate, only to learn the car was stolen, and the real owner, who reported it missing, had no connection with the masked man.
The next morning, Jeong-woo was deep in thought about the incident when Hyo-ju visited him. She shared her suspicions that her father had been murdered by a masked man and mentioned overhearing Min-hyung discussing with Seo Kang-ho that the masked man might have a grudge against Jeong-woo. Jeong-woo then confronted Min-hyung, who, surprised by his knowledge, promised to update him if they found anything new.
Meanwhile, in this episode of Face Me, Jung Hee-young, a participant in a K-beauty competition, was attacked with acid by a woman. She was rushed to Jeong-woo’s hospital, devastated by her facial scarring. Jeong-woo treated her but showed little empathy.
At the police station, Seo Kang-o (Lee Seung-woo) interrogated the attacker, who claimed she acted out of revenge, accusing Hee-young of having an affair with her husband. However, the attacker soon pretended to remember nothing and was released for lack of motive or evidence. Hee-young’s boyfriend, now hearing the affair allegation, started to doubt her.
As the attacker left the police station, Min-hyung deliberately mentioned on a call, within the attacker’s earshot, that the victim was still in the hospital. As expected, the attacker returned to see Hee-young. Min-hyung had planted a camera in Hee-young’s room and replaced her with an armed team member posing as Hee-young.
Min-hyung, joined by Jeong-woo, watched as the attacker sneaked in, snapped a photo of the bandaged “victim,” and left. On his way out, Jeong-woo saw the real Hee-young arriving, visibly traumatized, and sitting in the hospital elevator. This moment lingered with him. Min-hyung and Kang-ho secretly followed the attacker to a house belonging to the wife of a modeling agency owner, raising further suspicions.
Later, as Jeong-woo drove home, he recalled Hee-young’s despair and turned back to the hospital. Unable to find her, he noticed the elevator heading to the terrace. He rushed there. The scene shifted to Hee-young on the terrace edge, crying and watching billboard images of herself as a runway model. The episode 3 of Face Me ended on this cliffhanger.
Episode 4 of Face Me opened with Jeong-woo reaching the terrace just in time to stop Hee-young from jumping. She screamed at him, questioning why he saved her, insisting she “died” when she was attacked. Jeong-woo told her to fight back, offering to perform a skin grafting surgery on her scar. She agreed.
Meanwhile in this episode of Face Me, Min-hyung and Kang-ho’s stakeout revealed the agency owner’s wife orchestrated the attack on Hee-young. They saw the attacker blackmailing the wife and leaving with a bag of money. Reviewing footage from the attacker’s car, Min-hyung and Kang-ho spotted her holding the money.
Back at the precinct, Min-hyung heard that Jeong-woo saved Hee-young. She called him but found that he’s passed out drunk at a roadside shop. The shop owner answered the call and informed Min-hyung.
She went to pick up Jeong-woo, bringing him home, where she met Cha Jeong-woo’s friends Han Woo-Jin (Lee Yi-Kyung) and Park Chae-gyeong. Chae-gyeong revealed Jeong-woo’s personal trauma—he lost his fiancée to a similar crime, making it hard for him to interact with victims. Min-hyung was taken aback by this revelation.
The next day, Jeong-woo successfully completed Hee-young’s surgery. Min-hyung told him to be proud, as he had done something good. Jeong-woo brushed it off, saying it was simply his duty. Min-hyung argued that while solving cases can’t undo victims' pain, his actions make a real difference. She gifted him some candy.
Elsewhere in the episode 4 of Face Me the attacker was attempting to undergo a surgery. She was caught while depositing her payoff money. During interrogation, she confessed the agency owner and his wife masterminded the attack.
Min-hyung arrested the wife based on this admission. Further investigation revealed Hee-young had reported the agency owner’s sexual assault on her best friend, leading to his imprisonment, which motivated the wife’s vengeance.
After her surgery, Hee-young returned to the competition. She didn’t place in the top three but was selected as the East Asia representative for a prestigious company. Min-hyung and her team, along with the hospital staff, celebrated Hee-young’s success. Jeong-woo, recalling Min-hyung’s words, enjoyed one of the candies she gave him.
Later in this episode of Face Me, Kang-ho acquired CCTV footage of the masked man who stole the car used to follow Jeong-woo. Min-hyung recognized the man and rushed out.
As Jeong-woo left work, he spotted someone suspicious and chased him but lost him after a brief struggle. Min-hyung arrived and joined the pursuit, heading in a different direction. Eventually, Jeong-woo lost sight of the man.
The episode concluded with Min-hyung running around the hospital building, stopping suddenly when the masked man called her name. She turned, and he removed his mask, commenting on how long it’s been and noting her appearance. The episode 4 of Face Me ended there.
Episodes 5 and 6 of Face Me are set to air on KBS2 on November 20 and 21, 2024, respectively. The episodes will be broadcast every Wednesday and Thursday at 9:50 PM (KST) and will also be available for streaming on Viki in select regions.
