Face Me episode 9 & 10 recap: Jung-woo's search for the truth leads to shocking revelations
Episode 9 of Face Me starts with Lee Min-hyung rushing into her brother's house and finding him lying in a pool of blood. Cha Jeong-woo is sitting beside him, looking shocked.
Min-hyung screams Jin-seok's name and desperately checks for a response, but he doesn’t move. Kang-ho arrives and sees the grim situation.
Jin-seok is rushed to the hospital for immediate surgery. Meanwhile, Jeong-woo is taken in for interrogation. He tells Kang-ho that he heard running footsteps as he entered Jin-seok’s house. He insists someone else was present, but Kang-ho is skeptical and questions him further.
Han Woo-jin, trying to contact Jeong-woo, learns about his arrest as a prime suspect in the attempted murder. Woo-jin informs Park Chae-gyeong, who hurries to the precinct with evidence.
She provides a recording of Jin-Seok, calling her to share something important. During the call, someone knocked on Jin-seok’s door while Jeong-woo is still on his way there. This clears Jeong-woo, and he is released.
As Jeong-woo leaves the precinct, he encounters team leader Choi from Min-hyung’s team. Choi warns him to ignore any evidence Jin-seok claims to have found, calling it a provocation.
Afterward, Jeong-woo confides in Chae-gyeong about his accident happening near his fiancée’s house seven years ago instead of near the hospital as he thought . He asks her not to intervene if he gets arrested again and leaves.
In this episode of Face Me , Min-hyung visits Jin-seok's house, searching for more evidence. There, she finds Jeong-woo investigating.
She warns him against loitering at a crime scene as a prime suspect. Jeong-woo explains he’s searching for proof of his innocence and points out blood stains on a metal object.
Upon testing, the blood sample doesn’t match Jeong-woo’s. Team leader Choi advises Min-hyung to step away from the case due to her family ties but she refuses, determined to see it through.
At the cosmetic surgery hospital, the chief reprimands Jeong-woo for staying in Korea and becoming a suspect, instead of going to Bintan. Jeong-woo mentions his accident records being deleted. The chief to know more questions Woo-jin, who says he was out of the country during the accident.
Jeong-woo’s mother later calls Woo-jin and upon being asked admits deleting the records. She says she wanted Jeong-woo to forget about the incident.
Min-hyung reviews CCTV footage near Jin-seok's house and sees team leader Choi leaving his house the night of the attack.
She contacts the officer investigating Jeong-woo’s accident seven years ago and learns Choi took the case files. DNA tests reveal Choi’s blood matches samples found near Jin-seok’s house.
Meanwhile in episode 9 of Face Me , Choi visits Jin-seok, who begins regaining consciousness. Choi recalls Jin-seok claiming to have evidence of his innocence, which led Choi to attack him.
As Jin-seok starts waking up, Choi tries to pull off his oxygen mask. Jeong-woo intervenes, accusing Choi of suspicious behavior. Choi tries to escape the hospital but is caught by Min-hyung.
During interrogation, Choi confesses to hiding Jeong-woo’s accident records at his mother’s request. He admits attacking Jin-seok out of fear that his secret would be exposed.
Jin-seok regains consciousness and Min-hyung apologizes to him for doubting him. Jin-seok reveals that he now remembers Jeong-woo chasing someone the night of his fiancée’s murder, not running away.
Later in episode 9 of Face Me , the evidence Jin-seok found, a watch, is retrieved from Choi. It contains blood samples matching Jeong-woo, his fiancée, and an unknown person. Min-hyung urges Jeong-woo to recover his memories of that night.
New CCTV footage links the attacker from Hyo-ju’s apartment to Nam Gil-taek’s murder. Meanwhile, Jeong-woo’s mother gives him his old phone, which contains photos of his fiancée with another man. She explains she withheld the phone to spare him pain.
The police decide to summon Jung-woo for questioning about his fiancée’s murder after finding his blood on the watch. They search his office and apartment but fail to locate him.
Meanwhile, Min-hyung receives a call from forensics about a match for the third blood sample. As she prepares to leave the precinct, she spots Jung-woo walking in.
She stops him and asks him to come with her. Jung-woo explains he came to volunteer for the investigation. Min-hyung informs him about the discovery of the third blood sample.
Jung-woo then recalls seeing someone else at his fiancée’s house on the night of her murder. Min-hyung tells him they are heading to confront the real culprit. The episode of Face Me ends on this note.
Episode 10 of Face Me begins with Min-hyung taking Jeong-woo for hypnosis to recover his memory. Jin-seok also undergoes hypnosis and recalls two men fleeing the scene.
Under hypnosis, Jeong-woo remembers finding his fiancée in a pool of blood and then realising someone is in the room. As that person tries to escape, he chases him.
He recalls seeing the attacker’s face but cannot identify it. The doctor explains that Jeong-woo’s brain is blocking the memory.
At the precinct meanwhile, a newly appointed team leader furious of the prime suspect being not caught, orders a search for Jeong-woo once again.
Before the team can leave, however, Jeong-woo walks in with Min-hyung, volunteering for reinvestigation and submitting his old phone.
During interrogation, Jeong-woo reveals he received anonymous photos of his fiancée with another man. After his statement, police begin comparing DNA from Nam Gil-taek’s murder and the fiancée’s case. They also examine keyrings found at the scenes.
Jeong-woo finds a group photo of his fiancée's dance group on his fiancée’s social media. He recognizes the man from the photos he received and contacts him.
The man gives Jeong-woo his fiancée’s laptop, revealing that Jeong-woo’s fiancée also received the same photos.
The police then interrogate Han Woo-jin, Kim Seok-hoon, and Jeong-woo’s mother. These individuals were part of the health program conducted in the prison.
This means they could have access to the keyring. Additionally, they are closely connected to Jung-woo and his fiancée. For these reasons, the police decide to investigate them further.
The police question them about their whereabouts on the day of Nam Gil-taek’s murder. Han Woo-jin claims he was at a club, while Kim Seok-hoon states he was at home. When asked about the keyring, all three admit to losing theirs but cannot recall when.
Min-hyung confronts Yun Seo-hui, accusing her of disliking Jung-woo’s fiancée. She asks if Seo-hui was the one who took and sent the photos of the fiancée with another man to Jung-woo. Seo-hui denies it but admits she hired private investigators at the time.
Meanwhile in this episode of Face Me , Han Woo-jin visits Jung-woo, and they discuss the situation. Jung-woo blames himself for not knowing his fiancée better and vows to find the killer.
Woo-jin asks what he would say to the killer and reminds him that meeting his fiancée changed his life, but meeting the killer could change it again.
On a visit to Chae-gyeong with her brother in Face Me then, Min-hyung uncovers Woo-jin’s past, learning he befriended Jeong-woo because of financial support from Jeong-woo’s mother.
She reviews CCTV footage the night of Nam Gil-taek's murder and Hyo-ju's attack and finds the figure caught on camera to be similar to Woo-jin.
Woo-jin and Jung-woo begin Hyo-ju's skin graft surgery. Still struggling to recall her attacker's face, Hyo-ju notices Woo-jin standing beside her in a mask.
Just before the anesthesia takes effect, her eyes widen in shock as she recognizes his eyes as those of her attacker.
Min-hyung learns Hyo-ju's attacker was last seen near a cosmetic surgery hospital the night of the incident. She discovers Woo-jin put Nam Gil-taek in a taxi after a scene involving Jung-woo and tracks his address.
Realizing he was nearby when news broke about Hyo-ju's neighbor being a witness, she checks CCTV footage. It reveals Woo-jin’s car following her to Hyo-ju's apartment. Alarmed, she heads to the hospital.
Later in this episode of Face Me , waking from anesthesia, Hyo-ju recalls her attacker’s eyes and sketches them. Searching the hospital online, she matches the sketch to her attacker.
Jung-woo, with a technician’s help, unlocks the laptop. Inside, he finds the incriminating photos, one of them showing Woo-jin's reflection. Shocked, he remembers Woo-jin’s cryptic words and rushes to confront him.
Hyo-ju, leaving her room with her sketch, notices Woo-jin following her. Panicked, she flees to the parking lot and hides in a closet. Jung-woo, unable to find either of them, sees Woo-jin chasing Hyo-ju.
He suddenly recalls seeing Woo-jin fleeing his fiancée’s apartment the night she was murdered and freezes in shock.
From inside the closet, Hyo-ju hears Woo-jin’s footsteps nearing. His presence triggers memories of the attack. The episode 10 of Face Me ends with Woo-jin gripping the closet's doorknob, ready to open it.
The final two episodes of Face Me , episodes 11 and 12, will air on KBS2 on December 11 and 12, 2024, at 9:50 pm (KST). These episodes will also be available for streaming on Viki in select regions.
