BTS' Kim Taehyung, known by his stage name V, enlisted in the South Korean military on December 11, 2023, to fulfill his mandatory service. Before his military enlistment, BTS V released his debut solo album, Layover, on September 8, 2023, which quickly dominated several music charts globally.

1) wherever u r by UMI (feat. Taehyung of BTS)
The first release after his military enlistment was with American R&B singer-songwriter UMI. BTS V featured on her single, wherever u r, released on December 30, 2023, on his 28th birthday. UMI mentioned that the song was a gift to BTS ARMY on the idol's birthday.
2) Compose Coffee ad campaign
V was announced as the face of the Busan-based beverage brand, Compose Coffee, in December 2023. His first ad campaign came out in January 2024, impacting the brand's sales revenue. Compose Coffee recorded a 72% increase in its sales after Taehyung's endorsement.
3) Love wins all by IU (feat. Taehyung of BTS)
South Korean soloist and actress, Lee Ji-eun aka IU, released her comeback single, Love wins all, on January 24, 2024. BTS V starred in the track's official music video as IU's love interest. Love wins all scored a 'Perfect All-Kill' on the Korean music charts, and V was lauded by fans for his acting prowess.

BTS V dropped his solo English single, FRI(END)S, on March 15, 2024. The track was written and composed by the K-pop star and reached #1 on the iTunes Worldwide Song Chart across 100 countries. FRI(END)S became BTS V's 5th solo single to achieve this feat on the Worldwide iTunes charts.

On July 9, 2024, BIGHIT MUSIC released the idol's exclusive photo book, TYPE 1. The book contains pictures from the idol's journeys and moments between 2022 and 2023 until he enlisted. BIGHIT MUSIC organized an event, ARTSPACE: TYPE 1 Exhibition, from July 12 to 21, to display the photo book content for ARMY.
