On September 8, 2023, BTS' Kim Taehyung released his debut solo album, Layover, with the title track, Slow Dancing. The record marked its first anniversary on September 8, 2024, and fans flooded social media by trending the hashtag #1YearWithLayover.

ARMYs reminisced about the BTS sensation's unique announcement ahead of the release of his album its concept shoot, and more. On August 8, 2023, the announcement with a teaser clip was released along with the opening of the album preview pre-order. Following this, on August 10, the set's pre-release track, Love Me Again, was released with an official MV.

On August 11, the Layover concept photo was released and the second pre-release track, Rainy Days, was dropped with an official MV, featuring Taehyung and his pet dog, Yeontan. On August 16, concept photo 2 was dropped, featuring Yeontan once again.

Kim Taehyung, who is well-known by his stage name V, featured on the cover of three magazines: POP, Arena, and W KOREA. All three were released together on August 8, 2023, to mark the beginning of his solo journey as an artist amidst his debut album promotion.

To promote Layover, the BTS idol appeared on multiple Korean variety shows like Running Man, You Quiz on the Block, IU's Palette, The First Take, Tiny Desk, PIXID, and Suchwita hosted by BTS Suga. He also held a VICNIC live solo concert event where he met selected ARMYs and performed for them.

After the release of Layover on September 8, 2023, Taehyung performed live on stages like Inkigayo and M Countdown on his tracks like Slow Dancing, Blue, and For Us. At M Countdown, he performed with his pet dog, Yeontan, which led the latter's fancam clip to go viral online.

The BTS idol also surprised an ARMY by meeting her on Dingo Story and spending the entire day with her talking, roaming around Seoul, sharing meals, and more. Fans were moved by his thoughtful gesture of meeting one of his fans and inspiring her to follow her dream.

Fans were buzzed once more as Love Me Again was released on August 10 with no prior promotion. The song opened at No. 1 on the Billboard US World Digital Song Sales Chart and No. 12 on the Billboard Global 200.

Furthermore, with almost 1.67 million copies sold on its debut day, Layover broke the record for the greatest first-day sales of any solo K-pop artist in chart history, according to Hanteo Chart.

It was No. 1 on both the Digital Albums Chart and the Download Albums Chart. Layover also debuted at No. 2 on both the Billboard Japan Hot Albums Chart and the Oricon Albums Chart.


In other news, Kim Taehyung of BTS came online on Weverse on September 8, 2024, on the occasion of a Layover completing one year.
