On January 3, 2025, the cast of Squid Game 2 shared their experiences filming the iconic "Red Light, Green Light" game in a YouTube video titled Squid Game 2 Cast Reacts to the Red Light, Green Light Game. The actors opened up about the challenges of shooting the scene and how difficult the game was to "play," even as part of a staged production.

Actress Park Gyu-young highlighted the mental resilience required, saying one needs to be mentally strong to stand still during the game. Actor Yim Si-wan echoed his thoughts, emphasizing that standing completely still was extremely challenging. He added that hardly anyone would survive if this were real and not staged.

“Standing still in that game was extremely difficult. If this were real and not staged, hardly anyone would have survived.”

Other cast members shared a mix of insightful and humorous takes on the experience as well. While some spoke about the technical difficulties and physical demands, others joked about hearing the game's song in their heads long after filming.

Squid Game season 2, which debuted exclusively on Netflix on December 26, 2024, amassed 68 million views during its first week, according to Forbes.

In the video, the main cast members of Squid Game 2—Lee Jung-jae, Jo Yu-ri, Yim Si-wan, Park Gyu-young, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, and Lee So-hwan—gathered to reflect on their experience filming the intense "Red Light, Green Light" game. Each actor shared their unique perspective on shooting this scene, shedding light on both the challenges and humorous moments of the process.

Lee Jung-jae, the lead of the series, delivered a comical take, saying the first thought that crossed his mind when he heard the game's music was:

“Why am I doing this again?”

Having already faced the deadly game in the first season, he jokingly questioned why he had to relive the experience in season 2.

Yang Dong-geun, who portrays Yong-shik in Squid Game, remarked that while the song initially felt exciting, the repetitive nature of the shoot, which spanned several days, made the music increasingly grating. He said that by the end, he didn't want to hear that song ever again.

Lee So-hwan, who plays Jung-bae, Gi-hun's best friend, revealed that the game's haunting tune stayed with the cast even off-set. Park Gyu-young, who portrayed one of the shooters in the game, shared her perspective on embodying such a ruthless role.

"Honestly, those who don’t move at all have incredible mental strength," she said.

Park Gyu-young admitted that she was just focused on playing her part at the time of the shooting. However, she added that it looked absolutely merciless while watching it in the series. She also credited the production team for training her to handle the shooting scenes convincingly.

The video ended with the actors expressing their gratitude and encouraging fans to continue supporting the show.

Meanwhile, the highly anticipated Squid Game season 3 has been officially announced, with a release date set for June 27, 2025. Fans who have already been captivated by the second season are eagerly awaiting the final chapter to see what drama and twists await in the gripping series finale.
